Datsun 1200 used a traditional vane-type water pump, driven by the fan belt. The same pump was used from 1966 Datsun B10 to some 1982 Datsun B310. However, air conditioning-equipped models used a different hi-performance pump, and some models used a short-shaft pump.
New-style short shaft, wider fan bolt spacing:
There are two basic water pumps for A-series engines:
- A12 is long shaft, large pulley (spins slower)

- Note that the pulley bolts are wider apart in the newer pump.

A15 has smaller but more agressive impeller (turbine)
Pulleys
- Original Style: ~1.9 inch bolt centers.
- 21051-18000 PULLEY-FAN & WATER PUMP (D=124) through 1979 (A10, A12, A13, A14, A12A)
- New style: ~2.3 inch bolt centers. The spacer has 1.9 holes on the fan end.
- 21051-H9900 PULLEY-FAN & WATER PUMP (D=124) From 0879
All the fans are 1.9 inch.
