The Hitachi D4R electronic distributors are used by the early E-series engines. These can these be modified to work in A-series engines. See E15 Electronic Distributor Swap for details.

Overview
These have an inboard transistor ignition unit, compared to earlier 1978-1982 A-series USA distributors with the outboard "matchbox" ignition.
