The 3-speed used a column shifter attached to the steering column. 4-speeds and 5-speeds use floor shift mechanism that is integral to the transmission itself.

If you want just the pattern on top, you can buy those from Autobarn and other similar stores as a badge with sticky back.

Shifter Bushes

The bushings become dry rotted, broken. New ones restore your shifter for tight, precise shifting again.

I got tired of the shifter in my 1200 flopping around, so I changed the bushings. It took about 5 minutes. I don't know what happened to the old bushings, I didn't see any in there at all. It was nice and tight last year, but one day it just started flopping. I reckon the old ones shattered into a million pieces. Anyways, for 5 minutes and 5 dollars, it sure works better now.

Short-throw Shifter

Simple method: cut just below the fulcrum pin in the round part. Then just weld in a piece of 3-4mm steam pipe 1 - 1.5 inches long then weld the fulcrum back on top. On the stick cut the bottom off and exten it the same amount and then weld the ball back on.

Pro method: Angelo made the adapter and stick to move the fulcrum point up about 1.25"/31.75mm. The stock shifter moved about 6-7" from 1st to 2nd, now it moves only 3". Side to side movement is still the same as before. It has taken me a few days to get used to. The throw is so short, it's difficult to go from second to third and from fourth to fifth. Tap the original holes for the fulcrum pin with an M10x1.5 and used short flathead/countersunk M10 screws to mount it.
