tsillay, maybe that's cause I only post the good shots
I don't think there's much drift happening here from what I remember - it was pretty well hooked up and accellerating at this point. The track down there was so wide and smooth, and once the sun came out and wind died down a bit, the track really came on with some temp in it. I had a smile on the dial all weekend...still do in fact, especially with comments like these. Thanks everyone
The rear end is a little unorthodox. I have a locker, and the best way I've found to overcome the understeer they induce is to run softer rear springs and a fairly heavy rear bar to keep the overall spring rate up. My theory is that the heavier bar unloads the inside rear wheel as you turn in, which effectively eliminates the locker effect and the understeer. The when you get on the gas, the softer springs allow it to squat and get good drive to both rear wheels. The softer springs are also an advantage for launches, which is important for the short standing start events I do.
I switched back to the standard 17mm front bar with the rear bar set hard just before Bathurst. also revised the front geometry slightly - just toe and caster settings at a test day at Morgan Park 2 weeks before this event.
The plates are QLD Special concessional registration for limited use. Any car over 30yr old is eligible for Classic rego. You just have to be a member of a properly constituted car club and supply a letter from the clubs dating officer (I think this is a legacy of their Street Rod rules) specifying the age of the vehicle. You can drive the car anytime within a 15km radius of the primary garage location, to and from places of repair, and to any club event. It's only $150 per year saving about $300! Keeping it registered keeps my options open for tarmac special stage rallies in future.
