Another angle. The repair should be undetectable when finished. Thanks again B310GX

I have managed, with help, to source a replacement grille in Japan, as well as some new [in box] original JDM coupe mirrors & some much needed park light lenses. The Aussie mirrors for all models used a round mirror head, but JDM 1000 coupes had a diferent shape mirror head. Sort of rectangular but tapered. These will be door mounted, which was a factory option.

Thank you 2332owner. It could not have been done at all without you.

I still need a coupe front bumper without a deep roadside-post impression in it. With a left side mounting bracket & it would be perfect.

Yes, i'm getting all inspired too. The engine work is temporarily on hold to ensure that i have enough money to do this job properly.

I have been looking at silver cars & i have decided that silver is too light, so i am moving towards the grey metalics as a possible colour choice. Not too dark, but not too light either. I want it to be a class act all the way.

Dodgeman are you going to put a highly modded motor in, are you looking to put sumthing really hot in there, or just everydayer with the stock A12gx motor??

I assume you have been around Aseries for a long time. Have you ever gone with a highly modded Aseries in a 1200/1000? for example Turbo? Supercharger? Big A15 horsepower etc?

Just out of intrest as you are a datsun Vetern

Cheers

The engine that's going in here is a near stock 1200 [honest, would i lie to you?]
OK, it's a 'built' engine that displaces 1434cc & uses a 1200 block. It will look like a stock 1200GX but what you don't see is what will hurt you.

I have not built any radical 'A' series engines as i have always been a long distance cruiser & big power outputs are counter productive for my kind of motoring. I need lotsa torque from an engine that is thrifty on the fuel & can live near forever. This is why i have never broken a 56 series gearbox, or any part of my H145 rear axle assembly.
That funny clinking noise is all the money i saved by not buying replacements for broken parts.

The fact that my engine ran very well for so long is a testament to a bloody good original design, more than my skill as an engine builder. If looking for higher output, my motto has been to go for the maximum cube engine first, then apply performance mods later. I have stretched my 1200 block to just about the limit of displacement increase i think.

The overall plan is to have my coupe looking like it could have been factory built, using almost ALL stock Datsun components, but not necessarily Datsun 1000 components. The wheels should be the only non Datsun parts that can be seen from a standing or sitting position. [Don't mention the front brakes] Even the five speed will have the KB10 factory sports option gear knob with the four speed pattern. We don't want to alarm those Toyotaaargh drivers, now do we. I want it to look like the car version of the well known "mild mannered reporter from a major metropolitan newspaper"
It should serve my purposes very well
