The bit that's circled, the paper membrane is torn, what does this mean?

 Re: 23/36 dgav need help
I picked a couple of these up for nothing today. I was cleaning this one up, and found that this paper (might not really be paper) piece was torn. I'm not sure but from what I could gather it is a vacuum operated thing that adjusts the choke. Is it important and will it need to be replaced.

Also, what would a rebuild kit cost for one of these, or what would it cost to get one rebuilt.
Thanks in advance,
-Tyrie

Im guessing you mean 32/36 NOT 23/36
Umm just a gasket and simple kits about $30 but a complete kit would go from either 40 - 70 bux depending where but get the full kit as they have the full diaphrams and parts for DGV/DGAV/DGEV so they is goooood

Oh and that part is the vacuum for the water choke but just get a kit and they have one of these spares in there.. BUT mine did not fit (the shaft was round not square and cut out for the spring to spring into..... )
So if this is the same jsut do what i did, get the rubber off the new part and mold it around the old part, works fine....

Oh and where are you thinking of spliting the hose to run in the choke? Off the radiator hose or heater hose??

Cheers
Dave

if its just for the choke jkust disconnect it, my thrashed a12 with little compression ran fine without it, stalled on the driveway sometimes but if u just rev it a bit its fine.

Well what I remembered I went to a carb specialist in brisbane and for that piece its like $16
its called choke diaphragm
I converted my water choke to electric choke the kit cost $65
but I think you can get something similar off xf falcon? not sure
goodluck

Tyrie

Don't know if this helps or not <http://www.redlineweber.com/html/Tech/32-36_dgev_parts_breakdown.htm> is an 'exploded' diagram of the 32/36 DGAV. I'd like to be more help, but the one I run is DGV (manual choke!)

Thanks for the advice guys.
I want to keep the choke (currently running SUs without chokes on my ute and its giving me the sh!ts, and its summer) and I havnt decided where to get the water from, dont even know what engine its goin on.
A full rebuild kit doesnt sound that expensive, I reckon i'll get one of them.

Thanks again,

-Tyrie

if your running SU's then fitting the weber even without a choke will put a smile back on your face! webers have accelertor pumps which makes starting and response when cold so much better than an atmospheric SU type of carb
