This shows the designs for the bits that need to be manufactured to turn your A series pump into a high volume pump using Z series bits.
Its the bits in the red boxes that needs to be manufactured to make it all work.

Re: more A to Z series oil pump
i'm gonna give this a shot, as i am planning on adding an oil cooler to my system

is there any oil coolers in cars typical of wreckers for engine oil type applications?

also... to check those lengths as they are hard to read on my screen anyway we have:

overall length = 108.02
smaller lengths = 34.9 and 73.12

correct????

hey 1200rallycar I have seen a website before they sell alot of different parts that I think you would be intersted in, one part they sold was an oil cooler kit and remote oil filter assembly. The kit just screwed on where the oil filter normally resides, and has stainless braided hoses for reliability, the whole kit was quite interesting and appeared reasonably priced .....but I can't for the life of me remember where I saw the website, one thing I do know is that it was an american web site

Try going to a pomey car wrechers. Lots of pomey cars came out standard with alloy oil coolers. I am goin to use one out of a 88 XJ40 jaguar as i already have one but i havnt trial fitted it yet. You might have to play around with the fitting though.

Re: more A to Z series oil pump
just to avoid confusion, that's an L series oil pump from a 240Z. Although the Z18/Z20 etc oil pumps may well be the same given their other similarities.

Anyway, any 6cyl L series oil pump is the same as this - it doesn't have to be from a 240Z. The various model Skylines (C210 and R30) and 240Ks should be easier to find, and wreckers have a nasty habit of bumping up the price if you ask for anything from a 240Z or 260Z. btw, the L28ET has a bigger oil pump again.

Re: more A to Z series oil pump
Thanks L18_B110, I remember the confusion last time this subject came up and I went away and clarified the info. You are correct as it looks like all the L series pumps are the same (4cyl & 6 cyl) except for the L28ET.
So you can use any common L series oil pump as parts to upgrade the A series pumps and follow the details in the above pic and everything will be OK.
Final result will be a bolt on A series high volume oil pump.
