This is my new 1000 coupe that I just bought off LAGWAGON. She is a bit rough but is set up for racing. I plan on tidying her up a bit and doing some hillclimbs, motorkanas, and perhaps some track work. It has an a14, rollcage, locked diff and not much else. Im only 16 and this is my first car. let me know what you think!

I think that this is what you wanted.
This is a nice picture of the rear part of a Datsun 1000, H145, rear axle housing.

That exhaust pipe should be making all the right noises too.

what you talkin bout willis? (dm) the diff centre is a 4.11 ratio h145 from a datsun 1200 wagon VB110. alloy carrier, also from my wagon.

if you want a replacement centre you could get one from any H145 equipped car. 1200 coupe, sedan, wagon, 1000...

shouldn't need an unlocked diff to get RWC? should you?

The alloy carrier is a B10 part & the iron carrier is a 1200 part. If you pulled this diff from a 1200 wagon, then I would suggest that someone else has fitted it to the wagon earlier in its life.
See the tech details in the sales brochure for 1200 coupes, sedans & 'wagons' in this thread.

Hey guys,

got some new air filters and a battery today, ready to wack in on saturday. Was wondering if anyone knew the part no's of the springs holding the brake pads in, as they were mangled in the whole wheelnut screwup. Thanks for the diff info. I think I'll leave it locked for now, then worry about rego, etc, when that time comes. How much do you reackon it would cost to get the seats retrimmed?

cheers, Ian

Re: my new 1000 coupe race car
Im planning on spending all of saturday on it, so will get some good pics off the discs there. The callipers were from a JD Camira. The guy that built it tried about 7 different actual discs, and he cant remember. check out http://datsun1200.com/modules/myalbum/photo.php?lid=6293
Thanks for the diff info Chris. Leigh perhaps you can shed some light on it? I just cut and pasted that bit of info out of his add. Is it a h145 or h165 with a h165, 4.11 alloy carried centre? I would like to know so I can get another centre (unlocked) to get rego.

You wouldnt believe what happened on sat. I drove it for about 10 mins around my dads yard at his factory and put it in the shed. Then yesterday when I spent a few hours on it, I discovered that 2 wheelnuts and a stud were missing! I searched everywhere where I had driven (gravel) and eventually found them. Then today I pulled the hub apart and found the stud had been pushed through, so it was floating around inside the brake area. Everything is thankfully fine, except 2 springs pulling the pads back in, so it will be sweet by sat hopefully. Important lesson.... check all the bolts on the datto!
cheers,
Ian

Yeah try and keep it in one piece, its a great car, in fact the KB10 is the best car of all the Datsuns bar none so your onto a good thing for sure.
It was the first car I ever bought and 19 years later I still have one and adore her.

Great car , youll be showing those lesser Datsuns a clean pair of heels in no time, know your limitations and learn the cars and you will both go far.

This is the rarest of the small Datsun models, globally, so you have been entrusted with precious cargo. Carry it with care & try to honour it's high status with genuine improvements in its condition when you can,... & you shall see your reward in heaven. [God shall be much pleased]

Welcome to the club, & welcome to the happy world of KB10 owners.

 stuff thats been done
Hey guys, thanks for the comments.
I put in a few hours on it thisarvo and started cleaning everything out.

The body is sound with a little rust in some hanging panels. it has 13 inch wheels with near new tyres. a14 with some mild port work with twin SU carbs. front has kissed a pole (not me) and needs a new bumper.
the front brakes have been converted to vented disks with alloy calipers. the rear end is running an alloy carriered 4.11 centre from a 1200 wagon, which is locked.

interior has a race seat which is old and shabby but does the job and a three point harness. it also has a brown davis alloy rear cage. the dash is mint with not a mark on it and it has a few extra guages underneath.

the car was previously logbooked but i have yet to chase this up through cams.

First thing is to get a new battery and sort out the air filters and handbrake, then start driving it. From there i will keep plugging away on the little things, like the rust, bumper, etc.

cheers, Ian

 Re: rego
Hey Andy,
No, it dosnt have rego at the moment. It ran out in Victoria about 3 months and a week before i bought it. I think if it is within 3 months its easy, but now it would have to go right over the pits. I would love to know exactly what would need to be done to be registered. the lights, wipers and all that works, but I think rust might be a bit of a problem. There is not that much, but my dad reckons it woudnt pass at the moment. I am in a bit of a quandry about what direction to take it. I want to do motorkana, hillclimbs, etc and am getting conflicting advice about whether it needs to have rego or not. Because I dont need it as a daily driver, it would only be on the road between the workshop and home, events and kicking ricebox's asses. If i just decide to trailer her, I might do things a bit differently. At this stage, I will work towards getting her rego'ed. PM me about seeing those discs.
ian

the rear end is running an alloy carriered 4.11 centre from a 1200 wagon, which is locked.

The original H145 diff in the KB10 used an alloy carrier & had a 4.11 to 1 ratio.

The only way you could get a 4.11 to 1 ratio in an H145 diff as original equipment in a 1200 was to buy a 1200 Van & order this diff from the option list, or you could order a new assembly from the parts department.
Part No. 38300 - H1100 would do the trick & it came with an iron carrier.

Good luck with the project.

Nice choice!
keep her straight! They are a great car to race! You shouldn't need to rego it to do hillclimbs etc, but motorkhana's are a different story. Best check with officials there. Supersprints don't require rego either.
Daniel.

I don't believe this to be true. I think you will find many sedans have 4.11's. My old yellow 1200 had them and atleast 2 other sedans I have had the pleasure of smelling diff oil from, have all had 4.11's.
My father said he ordered his sedan back in the day with 4.11's as he towed trailers often. This tells me that Capital Motors were fitting them as options.
Nothings to say the alloy carriers weren't left over stock shipped over for the 1200's.

Can someone tell me whether the handbrake cable was the same for all 1000's or is it a coupe specific one? I checked it out on the weekend (i thought it was just badly adjusted) but it turned out that it had snapped in line somewhere. If it is going to be too hard to find one, I think i will keep the leaver but make it a hydraulic handbrake.

Cheers, Ian

The hand brake system is interchangeable between left drive models, & Coupes [which were right drive only]
All non-coupe, right drive models interchange.

In that case, it sounds like I will be unable to get a new cable. I suppose I could get one made? Na, the hydraulic one sounds like more fun

I was just wondering if anyone has ever put a CA18DET into a 1000 coupe? Not that I was planning on it, just curious in case I decide to get a bit more serious in the future. Are the engine bays much smaller?

I've measured my engine bay up for CA18eT and it will fit
DET would have a wider head but should otherwise be similar in size blockwise

 Re: stuff thats been done
From my limited knowlege, the ca18's drop fairly easily into 1200s, and a series engines transfer between 1200s and 1000s fairly easily, so does that mean ca18s would go into 1000s fairly easily also, or is this just wishful thinking? And also how do ca18s go without a turbo (because that would mean I couldnt drive it on my P's )

The distance from the top of the 1000's crossmember to the underside of the bonnet is less than in the 1200 & the 1200 crossmember can be cut & modified for clearance, but, unless you use a whole 'nother suspension, the 1000 crossmember cannot, so you may have more clearance issues than you thought.
