I need to find some replacement fiberglass fenders. I saw that datsunsdotcom had a picture of a couple. Could someone please tell where I can get a pair. Thanks, Lamesa1200
Justin, If the hole diameter (PCD) of your wheels is not too different to your hubs, you can modify the wheel instead. The process is to drill out the holes in the wheel oversize and press in a steel insert with the new hole in it. A guy I know had it done in Brisbane so he could fit 15" Magna wheels (4 x 110) onto a Charade (4 x 114.3). It only cost $25 per wheel. It doesn't help your offset problem but maybe you can use spacers. Barry.
As far as down draft progressives go. A Weber 32/32 would work just fine. It is similar to the 32/36 except the secondary port is the same size as the primary. On the 32/36 the secondary is larger than the primary. I ran a 32/32 on my A14 and it ran fine. The 32/36 runs even better on a A14. I would guess that if you had any modifications to your A12, the 32/36 would work also.
As far as I know you need a set of homologation papers that state what the 1200 came out from the factory with eg. engine, gearbox, suspension. These papers also have adjusting limits and other specifications. The CAMS manual I also think has the rules and regulations for each class of racing. I will drop in this afternoon and see what I can get my hands on. I am still interested in what size carb(s) an A12 can handle. Assume it has had the head ported and shaved and a new exhaust. I am not sure if you can do this sort of mods in this class but I will soon find out.
They can be used if you wish to drill and re-tap the head. I you have an A14 head with the oval inlet ports it is better to get an A14 manifold to match as they have far greater flow potential. Hope this helps.
Well I have a great set of wheels (V4 Simmons) I bought them really cheap. Their stud pattern is four like the datsun, but they suit a ford laser, telstar meteor etc. and are the wrong offset. Looks like I will have to re-sell them!
Hey Simon, Firstly if your thinking about building a competition car rally or otherwise, get a set of rules/ regulations pertaining to the class you are interested in. 1200s love twin sidedrafts I have always believed Datspeed to know their stuff but if what you say is correct their man needs shooting. Being competitive in motorsport requires the ability to read between the lines a little and to push the envelope. The term "production" does it mean what was originally available in Aussie or what was sold around the world by Datsun? NZ had a 1200 race/rally special built called the 1200SSS it had a lumpy cam and twin 40mm Dellortos and extractors off the showroom floor. It was the basis for many young guys getting into motorsport. In Japan the 1200 got the 1400 A series and the L series motor and a super trick 1400 twin cam based on the A series block. 5 speeds were offered as an option too. So what you need to find out is what you can do first. With Dattos the choices are huge good luck!!!
