Hey guys as the subject states i am trying to think of easyer ways to paint the underside of my ute. I dont have to much space or a rotisserie but am keen to give it a go myself and see what i can do plus save the coin of paying a paint shop.

My plan is to
1. strip out all the unboltable parts
2. wire brush all the loose crap and find anything that needs attention pre paint
3. give it a a undercoat of some sort
4. then spray with 2 pac with the stipple type finish(not shore what thats called) in black or gun metal grey.

Whats peoples experience's trying this? If anyone has a rotisserie there willing to lend me in melbourne that could come in handy.
Some pointers will be good. Thanks

mate you can buy a little hand held sand blaster for about $150 and sandblast all under there then etch primer it then you can buy sound deadener in a can that you attatch to your air compressor then just spray all under there then you know its completely clean primed and looking like factory again.

You make it sound so easy lol. Well i went to a auto-paint shop today and asked about the sound deadener stuff and the bloke said to avoid it if possible cause once its on you cant get it off or sprey over. Cant remeber but he talked me out of it for some reason. Oh thats right it stains and is a little porous. So with 2 pac you can ust hit with presure washer and its clean again.
What you said about the hand held sand blaster tho :) interested in that! Where can i get my hands on one of them and do you have to buy the beeds to go in the gun?

I'm almost up to painting the underside of my project.

K&H have a product called kahguard, it is available in black or white and used with a shutz gun which is actually very much like a spray gun but able to spread the thicker body deadener material all in one go.

I'd advise against using deadener and painting over it. Only due to the fact your paint will eventually be stripped off from road use.

As for cleaning the underside I'm not yet an expert.... But every car can be different!

I for one would go see a autobarn store and ask about kahguard in there paint department

Done mine myself.

Lifted front of car with the engine crane, without engine fitted.

Scrapped all crap off, wire wheel in grinder to clean up, cleaned with prepsol, light coat of etch and then top coat of hammer tone grey.

Weekends work and $50.
