Please read and post your opinions!! :D

I have found a 1200 coupe for sale that looks really good, went and checked it out today and took some piccies which I have posted here - click for pics

Its very much stock standard, the only thing changed are the wheels (to 13" hotwires). The body is very good and relatively rust free, except for the area under the number plate at the back, and small bit on the rear guard and a little along the back under the bumper (see pics). The paint has seen better days!

Engine is original but has been rebuilt recently and runs and drives very well. All suspension, brakes and driveline looks to be in good condition. Interior is great, hoodliner intact and it has the original manual and jack. Electrics ALL work (even the interior light!) and wiring is neat and tidy.

The guy is asking AU$2200 unregistered.

What I want to know is is it worth the money he's asking?

Also, do all 1200 coupes come with tachos?

And, do they usually have a parcel shelf?

Thanks and i look forward to hearing some opinions!

the one I used to drive had parcel shelf and a tacho. Gotta be happy if there's a tacho there mate.
I think only the coupe came with the tacho, although maybe the wagon did as well as it had the 5 speed gbox option.
Paid $2000 for the coupe with 4 months rego and that was in 98 so I reckon you're on the money there.
piad 2800 for my dato ute so I reckon they hold their value.

In New Zealand that would be a bit on the pricey side I'll get the link up for the red coupe going for NZ$2500 when I can, the main thing with buying 1200s (in my opinion!) is rust. Here goes the link

Cars are heaps cheaper in NZ though aren't they? Would it still be pricey taking that into account?

[BTW I was born in Dunedin - shhh don't tell anyone ;)]

I reckon that's way too much. $220 is absolute top dollar for a stockie. And this one has:
* no reg
* faded & crazed paint
* no stereo
* dinged rear bumper

all Aussie coupes had the tach and parcel tray under glovebox, but not too many parcel trays are still in one piece these days!

Don't get me wrong, the body looks in good nick and a good base for a project car, but I reckon $1000 absolute tops for this one.

I sold this car for $3000 as a comparison
front 3/4
engine
interior

those ones in the pics are 1.5" SU's (can't remember the needles I used) on a A12 lynx manifold modified to suit oval port A14- cut the runners just after they split into 2 and welded on the A14 bits (then a bit of internal shaping with the trusty die grinder)
