A quick poll. How many Datsun 1200's are here in North America? It seems our friends down under have a plethora of Datsuns and things, even those across the pond have a few. How many do we have here and where?

I own a 1971 "green bomb" here in Dallas. That's at least one.

There's two sedans in my driveway. There's a coupe with 580,000 miles on it in town that I used to own. There's another coupe in town I see frequently. Also a sedan I see once every two years. I live in a 10,000 population. There is also a coupe for sale 2 hours from here(see this site for exciting new details).I also know of two decrepit coupes about a half hour from here. Hope this helps.

Sounds as though I have just as many in my garage than in North America. Having a look in my shed I see 5 coupes and 1 two door sedan.
What did you guys do with them all?

I know of seven drivers in the Seattle area, along with two more parts cars.

There were nine 1200s at the Blue Lake car show two weeks ago in Portland, Oregon (see the photo album).

What happened to all of them? I wonder about that sometimes. I sent a dozen or so to Datsun Heaven when I worked at the wreckers in the 80s. The most comprehensive answer is probably in the old saying "america is a throw-away society" -- we like disposable items and getting new stuff even when the old stuff is still OK. On the contrary, most of us american Datsun 1200 fans are do-it-yourselfers and recyclers.

I have 2 in San Diego CA, my daily driver
a 73 coupe sunburst with an orange left
fender I bought it may 1982 and it has 300k
plus miles. soon it will be getting a ca18det
transplant. I also have a flared out primer
coupe that I got from Cell (see member list)
with a rotory in it not drivable yet, someday..
Cell has a red coupe gorgous other than the
dent in the roof from the hood flying open
with an a15 I think.. he is deciding on the
next power plant swap. at one time he
wanted the rotory out of my primer one..

Well, let's see. How many do I have?
The Chickenhawk, Gilligan, George*, the Louisiana Purchase*, Johnny Turbo, Herman, and the Junkyard Car. Looks like I have seven at my shop. Then there's Marty, which I sold back to its previous owner.

*Sold, but still hanging around my place.

Ok two 1200's Race HSR west I have my 1200 race car known as the "Pokey". My brother has one as a daily driver and I know a guy who owns a wrecking yard that has one he drives around.Plus there is another one locally that someone did a hideous job of making it a hatch back. Also we has a postman with a green sedan locally. I send parts to a guy in El Paso with a coupe. There is a 1200 race car in New Mexico I know of and another in Utah. So that makes 10 right?

Tom Grossmann , Las Vegas.

I have not seen any for a while. There was a white one around my neighborhood with 13 wheels, 175/50/13 tires, nice, but, after a while it moved away, never saw it again. There is anotherone in a driveway, rusting away. I contacted the owner, he does not want to sell it, but it is rusting away, what can I do.
I have seen 1200 in shows, but not on the road. Bummer.

wubbits, are you the guy I met at the Mossy show with the bubble-flared, yellow Coupe with 13x7 libres?

Currently, around my area, there's my reddish-orange Coupe, Ben's dark blue Sedan, a brown Coupe driven by some old lady (with a cool 70's western motif), a clean original dark green Coupe driven by some younger guy (dude, are you on this message board?), a beatup dark green Coupe parked on the side of a house (and there's gotta be more of those around) and Les' red race car and his rhd Coupe (converted, but in pieces). So that makes seven, plus cel's one and wubbits' two (and the guy with yellow coupe?) bringing the total to ten or eleven.
