i'll try to put a project car thread together to keep me motivated...

I bought the car off ebay, paid quite a price for it but had been looking for one in this condition for a while and just had to have it as my new daily.

It had the original motor (original everything actually) but it was rooted so i thought i'd update a few things and get it on the road...

A14
1200 gearbox and clutch
sigma disk brake conversion and 1200 coupe dual res m/cyl
dumped
13 x 6 steelies with 1600 hubcaps

I attended a few cruises and even a dyno day or two (34rwkw!) and then after losing my licence for six months decided it was time to progress to stage two.

I have always wanted to efi turbo an a series, but decided for my wagon to ditch the turbo idea and try and go for that old school look and sound with quad throttle body injection. I scoured the international ebays and got a set of gsxr 600/750 throttle bodies complete with injectors, tps airbox delivered to start me off.

Adapting them i thought would be easier as they had injector bosses in them etc so all i had to do was make four pipes join from the head to the tb's. It was a lot more work than i first thought but after jigging them in place then heading up to sikyne's workshop them manifold is complete. it tapers down from 40mm round to the gx ported inlet flange oval shape.

I then thought that to get the best out of the setup i needed a head and some good extractors to get it breathing well. The head is not on the engine yet as i'll get it all running first and then change the engine head and cam. BIGE (ernie from A.T.E race engines) did a perfect job of porting a head for me so that my inlet manifold flows seamlessly into the head. He put in some bigger valves (41mm in 33 ex) double valve springs and ported it to give nice torque and air speed as its a streeter. The head was also fully reco'd.

A lot of extractors prove hard to fit in the 1000 engine bay so i decided to make my own out of stainless steel. After so much mucking around i ended up flipping the engine mount on the passenger side upside down to allow me heaps more room for the pipes. I had to modify the crossmember to accept the much lower mount too.

the extractors are only at the primaries stage so far, and will have some nice juicy secondries to not rob me of too much down low in the rev range.

The fuel system is under way, i've decided to not run a surge tank as the shape of the wagon's tank is tall and narrow so hopefully i won't have an issue. The feed is taken from the tank drain plug and runs 1/2 inch to the pump with the original feed now being the return.

The efi fuel and spark will be delivered using a megasquirt computer. I built it myself and am currently getting a mate to look over it all so we can get some wiring under way. It will be sequential ignition with an igniter sparking individual coils. the old dizzy has been replaced with an e15et item which gives signal to the computer. a crank trigger wheel is also going to be used. the old fuel fuel pump hole has been covered up.

thats sort of it for now, lots more to come as there is so much more to do.

the body will get looked at one day but for now i'm trying to get it all running. This is also a budget build. lots of things are either diy custom stuff or bits from wreckers.
