i'm lookin for a 1200 wagon to do up, and do an Sr20DET conversion, if it's legal in NSW, otherwise i'll put in a CA18DET, but there is a few things i am unsure about, so i want to ask a few questions and acquire some valuable info that will help me in my project.

what would be an easy brake upgrade?

what would be the best place to buy a half-cut from and which would be the best model to get a half-cut of?

is it legal to put and SR20DET into a 1200 wagon in NSW?

cheers in advance, any info would be greatly appreciated.

anything can be legal if you engineer it properly.
though the SR20DET bumps the 1200 up to another catagory of engineering which costs more and i would think would need more work ie. chassie etc.

A CA18DET on the other had can be easily engineered if done properly and with a simple brake upgrade.

Good luck with the conversion.

Elliott.

I have been doing an sr20 N/A conversion in my 1200 ute. As far as legalities go I think you can only go to 1800 forced induction but 2 ltr N/A is ok. from what I understand the ca18 engine is starting to get a bit old and not as an advanced engine as the sr so that is the reason I went for the sr option. it has been a huge job and has cost a fair bit so far.
Good luck and make sure you do a heap of reasearch first

chassis work would be done for sure. no matter what engine i put in it. i may consider N/A SR20 if i have to. would still go friggin hard.

Hey there
I have a SR20 N/a in my 1200 coupe allready. The best ive done at the drages is a 14.7 and the motor is dead standed. It makes it a fun little car. Doing a n/a converision is a heap cheaper way, as you can bye the motor and box a lot cheaper, and you dont need to do a intercooler and plumbing. I used a the standed diff and it hasent broken yet.
If u need any info pm me

Trent that is one of the most beautiful coupes i have EVER seen!!! That is a real credit to you ...

I wanted to ask as I am doing the same SR N/A converstion in my race coupe, is what setup you have for the hydraulic clutch and also what radiator you used. I tried an S14 one and the bottom outlet fouled on the alternator pulley.

I agree Craig, nice conversion. You can see he takes pride in what he does. Well done.
I noticed a couple of things that looks like it has made fittment a bit easier - if I am correct it looks like the front panel has been cut and refitted to aid engine fitting?? Neat job so you hardly notice.
Also I cant say that I have see a boot with a split line down the centre before!!
Well presented coupes look great dont they!

The line down the center of the boot (trunk lid) doesn't show up too well in pictures -- this coupe here has such great paint that you can see it well!

You can see it in other coupes, for example:
