Hey guys this question is probly bin asked a million times before. But will the r30 or r31 disk bolt onto the 1200 hub with some modifacations or is it a lost cause...I have a set of coupe disks but they are beyond repair and i am after some better brakeing

you will have to change the whole strut assembly most likely, which will require sunny or stanza control arms balljoints and such
mest way to get bigger brakes

but you can get 180sx discs and calipers adapted to the coupe strut

I can get a set of s13 or s14 (i cnt remember) set of disks and calipers for next to nothing. will these work and also will sedan struts work or are the coupe struts different again.

sedan ones are drum struts, alot different to the coupe disc struts

if you got the brakes, you would then have to adapt them to the struts, dont know how hard this is

but there is a kit you can get to do it

well i pulled the struts i have from a sedan myself and they are definatly disks haha. Mustve had a conversion. Just holding the two together it looks a pretty easy conversion. The silvia centre bore is 68mm and the datsun hub is 70mm at the disk seat. But the silvia disk has a huge backspacing compared to the datto disk. I will knock out that 2mm on a lathe and then see what it looks like. I will post with the results

####. the rotors wont fit in my lathe by about 1 to 1.5 mm. ahhhh. I have to take them to an engineering shop now and pay out my arse for a 5 minute machining job that any idiot (including me) could do.

PIGDOG with that rowley disk conversion he hasnt used the original datto mounting point for the new disk. He has moidified the hub so the disk just slips over the studs(longer than standard I presume, I was thinking of doin it this way but it will space my wheels out around 6-7mm using the original datto hub.
I am looking at bolting the silvia disk to the back of the hub and making an adaptor plate for the caliper to suit.

MY brake conversion was using R31 front calipers on Stanza struts (Girlock), i machined about 0.200" inch of the back of the hubs and used BMW disks (i think they were 260mm x 20 ventilated) . As the R31 brakes bolt to the outside of the strut you need to drill the thread out of the stanza strut (but the holes line up). The R31 caliper has a large couterbore standoff which needs to be reduced (surface grind/angle grind) to match the offset of the BMW disc and stanza hub. Overall its a neat setup and gives the same offset as normal stanza brakes. IF you get early stanza struts (ie not girlocks) just use VL turbo calipers and verada discs. VL turbo and R31 calipers use the same pads :).
