Good point jog before you run

Seriously pulling anything apart is an easy task, you have to make sure you know what you are getting into.

Datoman 1000 has a great engine which with the right turbo, intercooler and tuned straight gas system could easily see 300hp.
The Ca18et more compact than the z18et which george fury raced.

For a more weird setup but will fit easily with a supra box and adapter would be a Taunus or Saab V4 1.8 litre 60 degree pushrod 94kgs but mated with a v6 vortex mitsubishi supercharger.

and . . . . .

if you go L series the L20b is 20mm taller than the l16 but!!! with the shorter head of the 12 valve ka24e head 34mm inlet valves!!!! it will be as tall as an l16. However a bored out l18 should suffice and has the same height as the l16 but 1991cc is possible and more with prepped l20b crank and shorter custom pistons.
190rwkw with a common cheap small rx7 snail can be had if you follow the following link.
http://zac510.ozdat.com/

This hybrid L series and Ka can run no pollution gear, dizzie is in the right spot, 5 speeds everywhere and more.
Also should be lighter than an SR20DE all up by at least 10-20kg, even more with a lightened crank and quad bike carbs like josh has in okinawa.

Looks like I may have a fiat motor for in my car it will only be a 8v head and it is a 131 fiat regatta motor I believe with a really hot head on it, going to look at it probably this week if I get my forester back just had a manual box put in it but they can't get the speedo to work, I have been waiting 2 weeks now!!! I have been told this fiat motor will swing round to 10,000rpm very quickly and has around 190bhp presently aspirated. not sure if it is a long motor or has carbs etc as well, guess I will find out when I have a look. at least I could register the car N/A with it and then bolt a turbo and charger on it later.

IMO you would be better off starting from scratch than trying to bolt a turbo onto such a highly tuned atmo engine.... wrong compression, wrong cam, wrong pistons.

190bhp in a 650kg car will be enough!

however if you are after boost, the stock fiat 8v mills boosted with custom pistons can make 400hp or 650hp with rigoli tuning.
Id buy a stock 132, 131 and use the running gear, get some good low comp forged pistons as the crank, rods are forged.
The cheapest hp come from fiats by far.
No pollution gear is a treat. They are simple engines and very much like their copy the ca18 but without the hydraulic tappets.

mat u shouldnt have sold your car....
anyway that jap site for a RWD VE is a bit dodgey.
You would have to take the dizzy off and have a bellhousing made to suit your gearbox and then run an A/M ECU. It will then cost heaps to setup the ECU for VVT....especially on an engine that no-one has done in aus. Better just using an s13 SR std ecu and loom.Cost around $1000 ready to go with box. But Id have to agree with D in a 1000 is just too heavy. Better a very warm A14 with quad throttles and ecu.

craig, i know you really liked that car, but i've already explained that "we parted on friendly terms"

and bite your tongue for suggesting an sr20; this is not datnet you know!

i don't suppose anybody else would go through the trouble of sourcing a rwd ga16de, except for feral errol perhaps

it's been awhile since i looked into it, so i don't recall if the rwd models were only auto trans. if that's the case, it would be the biggest hurdle

if that hits a deadend, "project a17" may have to come out of mothballs

I am still looking for a RWD bellhousing to mate the GA16DE to a RWD chassis. My construction makes this a possibility if I can find the bellhousing. I have been reading up and I think that 200 HP (at the crank) is doable NA. That would be just the ticket for my installation as I am restricted (by a single air restrictor) to about 175. If you find something, let us all know.

When I searched for Triumph engine swaps, or something like that I found this site.

http://www.triumphspitfire.com/engineswaplinks.html

There is a Triumph Spitfire with Nissan 1600 engine swap listed but following the links didn't get me anywhere. Maybe someone here smarter than me can find that article. It really doesn't say that it was a GA, just a 1600 so it could have been a 2v 510 engine.

Has anyone considered using the motor and gearbox from an early MX5?

I have certainly considered it. But that would require me to change the body on my car to either a MX5 or a MX3. I like the B13 body better than either of those options.

Nissan body = Nissan engine where I want to race it.
