i think it should be legal to rally a 1200 ute with a14 as it is sold as a B120 with the a14 in south africa...... is this correct

has anyone actually bought the papers off cams on this stuff for B110 or B120???

does anyone know for sure?

tempted to go rallying in my ute if it allows me a14

its been a while since i have looked at the cams manual, but whats the regulations with utes and roll cages?

shoud of had a look at one of these utes rallying, was a VY commo ute in the spring 200 last weekend, but i was too busy doing maps to check out the field

i know its difficult to get this information from cams as i have tried before... otherwise i would ring and get the official word

You might be better off with a 2L 120Y.

Send an email to Peter Lawrence technical@ cams.com.au, he'll help you out.

Still needs to be a full cage, perspex window can be fitted for rear braces.

Cheers

Kevin

Rallycar the taylor brothers rallied a PRC car (sedan) with a 1200 block used and A14 crank and rods and a thick head gasket to bring it up to an A14. Still an A12 block and conforms with the rules......
stoopid rule really.... at least with IPRA they restrict it to any engine of same manufacturer.

pretty sure you can't use commercial vehicles in PRC. my guess the commodore ute is a legacy of the Aussie class thing.

either way, PRC only allows use of the homologated block or the standard block as fitted in Australian models. Pretty sure no-one bothered to FIA homologate the A14 bakkie. And there was a recent engine ruling for PRC where the suggestion of allowing A14 into Datsun1200 was not passed.

there you go:
http://www.camsmanual.com.au/pdf/road/1107_0702.pdf

"Utes derived from a model eligible under article 1.3. of which more than 500 have been produced (eg, Falcon Ute, Commodore Ute)"

so no worries on the ute, they're fine.

i dont beleive that...

i beleive the whole ute=no grip is becuase all utes have uprated springs to carry load

do what i have done (put coupe springs in) and what is the difference????

the only thing a coupe has is a rear window, so what i need to add 20kg weight to the back?

battery and fuel system probably cover that

whats left?

they both use identical suspension mounting

Corner weigh a ute then a coupe and compare the difference. I used to have this info but cant find it. The ute is lighter, you would probably have to ballast up the ute rear to get grip. You will find that most good rally cars have rear springs that are much harder than the stock coupe springs. If you were to rally on stock coupe springs you will find the rear end smashing into the bump stops everytime you went over a jump or hit a decent bump at speed. Continually allowing this to happen will lead to a cracked chassis etc.
There is the odd ute being rallied but you will find that it is a very different kettle of fish to set up so you have good drive out of the corners.
