Hey guys,

I feel this is ramping up and there are tonnes of these little screamers just begging to be boosted here in AUS.
Now I like the idea cause the engines are
* virtually free
* they have a nice short stroke
* the blocks have 5 bearing caps
* they have a forged crank
* the conrods are very strong.
* a turbo to make this fly would be near to free
* can basically use a std camshaft
* cheap to make the head flow (or maybe use an A15 head)

The rest I want to stick into this thread.
Now may someone please find all the links to the other threads and we can kick this off and see what these little things will really do....

Whos in???

I am totally fascinated by this so Im # 1

Talking EFI or Carbie..... I see the a12DET. The EFI will cost some dollars. The manifolds also, Im not sure how stock exhaust manifolds hold??... What power figrures are going to be aimed at.

Topgear seems to have made teh most ocst effective A12T

100rwkw 12-13psi

a DET a12 aye.... im interested but i dont think i can play.
Any idea on what head you are going to use to get the "D" (dohc) part?
I rekon go the turbo a series!!!
I think a good solid list of everything you will need to achieve this engine would be a good start. just a thought

Just let me understand this clearly.
You plan to build an A12 DET, thats an A12, dual overhead camshaft [D], Electronic fuel injection [E], turbo [T] engine.
NOW you have my undivided attention, ... tell me MORE.

D = DOHC??
oops I thought it meant direct fuel injection.
Maybe an A12ET.
Electronic dizzys are easy to get (E) or maybe E=EFI
Also i have heard that an AC Delco ECU from a Camira would be good to run EFI and apparently they are re-mappable. Also I have heard a magna or falcon single throttle body would also be good. Otherwise a single SU would be good. I would like to see the different combinations to find out what the most cost effective with power would be.

Well I have heard a few stories about double over head cams on a series, but this is supposed to be cheap.

I was thinking of using motorbike injection, but have been told that it is much simpler to use a single plennum. Corolla 4age injectors and plennum could be a possibility.

What is the ideal compression ratio for a turbo engine?

I ve heard 8.5 : 1 is ideal.
Im wondering what pistons to use and what rings.
The botton end is pretty sorted if we sort the pistons and rings I reckon. Im sure it could take 20psi and rev really well too

Dang, I thought you had cracked the puzzle over the elusive DOHC conversion there for a minute, but what the hell, it still sounds like a bloody good engine.

Fabricated plenum on a dual Weber manifold with TBI & smallish [low cost] whizzwheel air pump.
Should end up being much greater than the sum of its parts.

Use the A14/15 head & a 76mm bore size.
Forged pistons for this bore size with the A12 pin size are available through our new found friends at B'projects.
This way you get the strength of forgings, the ease of fitment to the small pin rods & 1270cc, a definate improvement over the original 1171cc.
