Best thing to do topgear( It is topgears engine in the previous photo?) is ditch that aircleaner. I had one on mine, and when the dyno guy saw it he threw it in the bin! Gained 40RWHP!!! I now run a K&N Extreme top pod filter which has no loss.

What seems to be the most boost for stock pistons and rings?

How much punishment do the stock Head gaskets seem to take?

What is a good cheap headgasket upgrade?

Rallycar I remember you had alot of trouble with pistons and rings. We need youre help in this area. What do you recommend to make this area as strong as possible...ie where were failure points in your engine.

i have only really managed to stuff the rings, and i feel this is due more to my tune than anything else

10psi si definately sustainable (reliable) on stock compression, stock head gasket, stock everything

my plan when i have a bit of spare cash is to purchase a mega-squirt

i got a demonstration at datnats of the software and stuff from a guy running an l16 turbo

i think i will make a custom inlet manifold for this also

i think if you want injection this is the way to go, but im only at the stage of wanting to try this

going delco on stock a-series efi is probably not the best way

especially getting someone to tune the delco for you cheaply, rather than buying the proper gear, and tuning it yourself

at least having all camira sensors set up (probably cheapest sensors to get hold of) they are the same as this guy running megasquirt and they all match up

the megasquirt is a build it yourself ECU from USA, that you hook into your laptop and tune all yourself (VERY COOL!!!)

Well, thanks to TnPshow, life will be easier in making a custom intake and exhaust manifold for this kind of application.

A couple of months back I was at a place selling these used japan engines. There were something like 10 to 15 of the A12 complete engines (alternator, carb, etc) lying in a corner that the guy would like to get rid of. He even gave a cheap price that he will ask for an engine.

Problem is just how can one drop the comp, but still use stock parts to keep it cheap.
Wait a minute, while on the subject.A quick question. Payen is a very good gasket manufacturer that we use here in South Africa. Apparently they can, if asked for this specifically, make a custom head gasket up to 3mm thick. How much will this drop comp on a round port A12 engine? Will this not cause easier head gasket failure due to not going to be naturally aspirated but boosted?

Well I think I need to give Jeff a ring tomorrow and aks about the rings.
RC were you using stock pistons and if so did they show signs of any damage?
