hey guys, the most bestist exciting thing happend to me! the lube bay manager at dads work gave me a 4liter pack of Castrol Syntrax 75w/90, its fully synthetic, will this be ok for my coupes transmission? ive currently got Castrol VMX in there and it is sweet, fresh too, so should i save it for another car? use it? or sell it? its worth a shed load. also, i scored a 4 litre pack of Castrol Formula RS fully synthetic about a month ago its 10w/60, i got it for a reasonable price, as dads work only uses Castrol prouducts, so is this oil going to be all right in my engine? ive run Castrol GTX 3 10w/40 semi-synthetic with no hassles for a while now, so will the Formula RS be ok? my engine is an A12 that has been rebuilt with some good stuff, i never have to add any oil between changes as it only drops about 1 ml on the dip stick, which is nothing, so will the fully synthetic be ok, or will it be trouble, i drive pretty hard, and im covering about 5000kms every month and a half. ummm yeah thats bout it, thanks for any thoughts you have on using either of those. choice from chris

Hey Chris, Use the RS it's about the best there is and you can never spoil your baby too much, especially at the good price your'e getting it for.

Chris you are whack. Leave the VMX in the coupe and sell the Syntrax to your Nana for her Viva - her speed shifts are starting to lag. Take her money and really go to town on your rocker cover mods - and colour code the oil fill cap. Then everything will be more choice, eh bro!

thanks stirlingmac, so it will be fine to put in, sweet! so its ok its synthetic? hey who would recomend for a cam grind? and how much would i expect to pay? Sweet! hmmm have you moved to aussie teretonga? dodgy. :) yeah, that was the idea i was thinking about the Syntrax, talking about vivas, there is a rally viva over here with a 12A turbo rotory, scary eh. its got too much power that that they just run it on pump gas and have never cleaned the k&n just to keep it in check. Yeah bro! i could also buy more rocker covers! sweet! i was toying with the idea of a rally spec rocker cover for both gravel rallys and tarmac rallys, now it might come true! i was thinking mounts for everything from a shift light (i know its a bit far away but its an idea, like if it was bright enough, at night when suddenly you can see everything around you like daylight, you would know it was time to change gear! sweet!) to... well you will just have to wait and see, but a colour scheme of datsun orange is on the cards, the traditional war paint over here, well it is on my datsun anyways. sweet! its all good!!! choice from chris.

Yes I've temporarily defected to Aus leaving a few coupes in the shed back home. One of my reasons for coming here was to see Andrew run his coupe at Eastern Creek - even rented a house close to it - but now he's got the CA for sale:( So no luck there. I think I saw that Rotang Viva run at the Goldrush Hillclimb in Wanaka a while back. Was that your Nana driving? She had cleaned the K&N that day!!

I saw a NOVA documentary on PBS about lubricants in New York City on taxis. They found that no synthetic or oil additives extended the life of a motor any better than just plain ole changing the oil at the reccommended intervals. Synthetics are good oil but a costly yuppie thing that is not necessary. All of the hype on it is mostly the companies trying to sell another product. The only time that a synthetic oil was better is in a motor that is driven on very short trips. They do not get hot enough to evaporate the oil vapors which cause sludge buildups. The synthetics do not buildup sludge as easily but they still do build up sludge. This is for you people that post photos. Please size them before you post them. It is too hard to see a car when the picture is so large that you can only see half a door at a time. I have never seen a 1200 station wagon until I saw the photo section and then, I still haven't seen a station wagon, I only see a section of it. That almost makes it not worth looking at the picture.
