i had a locked ute diff in my sedan when i was first driving it and it was a great diff
then had an open r31 diff....got over that real quick
now im between diffs with a locked stock 1200 BW and it sucks

its nothing like i remember the ute diff being

but as its just going to be a thrash car i cant really see any prolem with having a locker....if you get over it take it back out again

remember that open diffs can also spin 2 wheels in the wet(and potentially make you crash).....you just dont know when its going to happen unlike a locker
and on second thoughts an LSD will also kick 2 wheels in the wet easily and cause you to crash....yet they are legal

So in reality one day you could be saying " I dont have anything, But THEY still taking anything and everything.

Having said that. I had a locked diff in my old yellow sedan. Only problem I had was understeer in roundabouts in the wet.
Oversteer is not really a problem unless you have no idea how to drive. And you can control when its going to happen.
I dont understand why people always mention reverse parking. My old sedan wasnt that bad to reverse park.
I always laugh when people say look out when you release the clutch. Dear God what kind of motor do you got?

I always hear such negative thoughts on locked diffs.. Have you actually tried one? They are not as bad as some make out.. If you have some sort of driver ability and im talking the real thing not just in your head they are quite fine.. Wet weather they have even more traction(ie both wheels) just dont be a fool and break it and you have no issue. They are predictabable yet unforgiving in the wrong hands.. Yes they are illegal but thats to suit majority like i said if you have ability in you'll be fine just dont be a tool. In saing that i took my locked centre out and replaced it with an open centre.. The hassle of driving a locked centre is not worth it. tyres and bushes and leaves and diff and gearbox wear too me was not worth it. As a weekend warrior, (with power that is) go for it. 2 is better than 1

If you think for one minute that the cops need your permission to pull apart your car when conducting an investigation in relation to an accident, then think again. If they really want to, they can reduce it to a pile of parts.
Having said that, anyone can pick a non freewheeler by simply raising one wheel & selecting neutral, then rotating the wheel.

Third party insurance is compulsory in NSW & I presume elsewhere as well. We can't get a car registered without it. It's commonly refered to as a green slip here. It covers you when you injure ANY other person with your car for any reason.

If you can't afford $140 for 'Third Party Property Damage Only' insurance, which protects you if you damage someone elses property, then perhaps you should think about a pushbike untill you can save it up.

If you damage someones Bimmer or Benz or other pride & joy, their insurer will fix it, .... then they come after you, & when they win in court, you pay for the damage, all legal expenses, [yours & theirs] plus any 'incidental costs' that they can come up with & garnishee your wages untill it's paid. [with interest]
Happy motoring.

in wa you can have no insurance .
i have 3 party , it covers the other car , and you have to fix your own car , and its around $140 a year , full comp insurance is over a $1000 a year , and i have 5 cars , not worth it ( is it? ) and i have neva had a crash so i have saved a lot of monie .
4 the cops to pull apart my car they would have to have a cort order or some thing , and i have neva heard of it happening befor

So in WA who pays for the other party when you cause the crash and as a result they end up with a broken arm or broken back?
You proudly say of 5 or so cars, but yet you seem to be under the impression that if no insurance, then in an accident nothing can happen to you except pay for your own car.

Have you ever heard of the saying " I have to save up to be broke"

Cops don't need a court order to pull apart your car if it's been involved in a road accident. The cops only tend to investigate horror smashes where the car acts as evidence.

And if you don't think insurance companies check for ways to get out of paying you out think again. A mate of mine in high school hit a patch of oil in the wet doing 70 and flipped his car. The insurance company refused to pay as he had a non standard steering wheel.

In my experience it is always safer to have full comprehensive insurance. If you can't afford it then buy a car you can afford it with. That being said, I find the disparity between insurance companies difficult to comprehend. The upside is 1200s are considered classic and can be insured with Shannon's, who are a damn sight cheaper then any other mob.
