1200 ute with R31 skyline diff

need some info on this...
What mod's are needed in fitting a R31 skyline disc brake diff to a datsun 1200 ute,
any help would be great

you would need te diff to be cut down for starters then you would need a new rear uni to suit, im pretty sure that s all

Hmm shorten it...
add leaf spring mounting plates
and sort out the hand brake cable

search would revile more as this has been discussed may times

you can use the standard ute leaf spring mounts just use u bolts.

Yeh, maddat do have it but for around $2500 it's not cheap.

although, if you had to find and buy a diff and then pay someone to do it all from scratch that wouldn't be cheap either.

I guess it depends on how much of it you can do yourself.

yea i am looking at this too and price are all over the place i have heard prices as low 600 to shorten and as all the way up too the maddat diff ( im normaly a big fan of maddat but it seems too expencive )

coz a r31 diff should be cheap , under $500 ??? and shorten around a grand ??
$120 for the tail sharft

does any one think these price are off the mark ??

Well my super duper trade price to get a b/w shortened is $550. But that does NOT include welding on all brackets etc. You can get a Whole R31 for a coupla hundred.

Donno why everybody goes for these diffs... The LSDs are #### for em!

Well i guess the attraction for me was
1. right stud pattern (saving)
2. BW are common as muck, so parts are easy
3. gazillions of ratios available
4. keeps it in the family.
5. can cope with more torque than the 1 series will ever put out = almost unbreakable
6. for me since the 1k is so short, they had to machine both axles down, so the axles are now stronger than factory, so it really is unbreakable!!


sure you could cut down a commodore or falcon diff, but that wouldnt be right now would it!

yeh standard LSD's are crap, but you can get good LSD's to suit or minispools for $80.
