Hi Guys
Somebody has just listed a 120y rally car on ebay with a close ratio escort gearbox.I have never heard of this swap.Does anybody know how it is done and just how feasable it is to do ?

yeah i've just seen that! it has close ratio straight cut gears, unbreakable it claims, i wouldn't mind having a look

It sounds like another of topgears creations. Lucky bugger being an engineer. Some of the Escort gearboxs are cast iron with seperate bell housings too.

I think I read some time back in a thread that member Tim Sillay had a racecar with an escy 'box many moons ago. I'd say it would be a good mod much stronger than A series box, better ratios etc although heavier due to cast iron construct.

Yep, Timbo ran a quaife 6 speed behind his CA16. I have got a Kiwi made bellhousing that mounts a Ford box to an A series. I have no need for it anymore if someone wants it...

Sounds familiar Wayne. Is the alloy A series bellhousing one of John Rowling of Nelson castings made in the mid to late 70,s. A Local 1200 rally car has one in it with rocket gear set, way understressed with a 1300 motor !....
