hey every one i was just wondering if any one had info regarding the 1200s at bathurst as i recently heard there was a factory wide body 1200 raced at bathurst and only 100 were made what made it different was that the chassis rails where moved inwards from factory allowing wider rims to be fitted and was just wondering if any one else knows about this or has heard about it
How does the moving of the chassis rails inward & the fitting of wider rims make these cars 'wide bodied'? I would have thought that 'narrow chassied' would have been more appropriate.
Keeping in mind that to narrow the chassis involves a major structural rebuild including moving the spring seats on the rear axle inwards since the springs are anchored to the chassis rails.
The new & narrower distance between the springs would then adversely affect the body roll dynamics as well so this would need to be addresses along with all the other suspension mods.
Keeping in mind that we have forum members that have successfully fitted 7" wide rims under their 1200's without moving chassis rails, & remembering also that the Bathurst Valiant Chargers, which must weigh twice what a 1200 weighs, & were circulating at speeds much higher than a 1200 could ever achieve, .... all on 7" rims, who on earth would spend the squilions of dollars needed to modify 100 [new] cars for a nil result. I mean, just how wide a rim would they be fitting?
This is a solution in desperate need of a problem.
It's possible that somebody somewhere has built a 1200 coupe with narrowed chassis rails for his own purposes but 100 cars to allow racing at Bathurst.
Yeah, right.
I 'heard' somebody say that Arnie Shwartzenegger was gay, but just because I heard it doesn't make it true.
When we see pictures of more than one of these cars, & we can see that all of them have identical structural mods, then I will place some credence in it, but untill then, based on the available hard evidence, .... it's ALL bulsh1t.

There 100% is a "widebody" version of the coupe. Boz has had one sitting in his Dad's shed for the last 10 years sitting there gathering dust hehe.
Pictures??? Pictures???? It doesn't exist unless we see pictures, it's just just words on a page.
Good shots of the rear underfloor area showing the structural changes to the chassis will be really good.
