drink enough alcohol between the ages of 12 and 18, and you'll have killed enough brain cells in the frontal lobe to withstand the boredom associated with polishing.

Using tools can quickly make it look good, but can just as quickly make it bad.

If you don't have time to kill your braincells, begin by smoothing out with wet and dry, then attack it with some autosol and a rag.

got to bunnings, purchase 400, 600, 800, 1200 grit wet and dry paper, go into the tool section and find the polishing kits, these work in a drill with the polishing pads supplied and enjoy the boredom ...
i've done 3 of 4 wheels and each has taken me around a solid 4hrs each and could still be polished further !!

...... oh and while you'reat bunnings pick up some elbow grease

In my first detailing job we would use Cutting Compound the real deal stuff you use for buffing cars. Get it from an Automotive paint supplies shop you can dilute it with water to lessen the cut. Then use a cut and polish or Autosol to buff it right up using flannelet rag or ya old flannys from last winter.
There Is No Easier Softer Way,
Been there done that just did a full circle.

aquire a case of man up and start the monotonous task that is polishing.
Best technique ive used...
Jack the rear of car up
SECURE stand, block the front.
Attach wheel
hose
turn car on and put in first
wet sand paper on wheel and hose every couple of turns to keep wet
datslatherightthere

Hours hours hours later you might get something like this

EDIT: just realised that you didnt actually mention it was a wheel lol

just go and get a cold chisel greatest hits album and polish away. you never know you might end up a weirdo like me who actually enjoys polishing quietly in the garage lol.
