Had exactly the same problem about 3 months ago. Mine was the main plug where they all come through the firewall under the dash. The big one with the ignition wires in it. There was a bad connection in there cleaned it up and connected them again and boom. Also could be ignition though cause i bought an ignition off someone who had fixed a 200b with same prob by replacing the ignition. Thats my experience.

either the terminal is not sending 12v down the R (running) terminal when the key is in the IGN position, or that wire to the distributor is broken, or the wire connection is corroded inside the BIG connector to the engine bay as another fella said..

Take all of 5 minutes to diagnose and fix with a multimeter.

Or the ballast resistor has gone open circuit.

Yes. When you put key to "Start" position, it not only operates the starting motor, it also supplies 12V directly to coil. Sounds like those circuits are OK on your ute.

When you let go (back to "Run" position), then 12V is cut from the coil. Instead a different wire supplies 12V to the ballast resistor, which supplies a reduced voltage to the coil. That's the circuit you need to look for.

This happened to me about six months ago. In my case, one of the wires by the coil was on, but had a bad connection. Pulling it off again and pushing it back on fixed it. Those push-on spade connectors are not the most reliable, which is why everyone stopped using them. Even B210 uses better connectors.

My situation was pretty straight forward.

Electronic Distributor - only requires a single 12v wire - ballast resistor wires joined.
Dodgy Kill Switch
No Ballast resistor

Forgot to switch kill switch off
Blew ignition fuse

Spent an hour fault finding
Replaced fuse

Problem solved.
