On another note, it's refreshing to see the media and Govt take notice of someone other than a P-Plater. 90% of the time it's the younger road users copping it.

It amazes me, I drive down the M4 almost everyday at around 5-10k over the limit and get passed by at least 3-4 red P-Platers. In saying that, I get passed by about 50 fully licenced drivers.

The simple fact is 20% of all road users are knobs!

They said he was a guy that has a huge collection of cars...

Dunno 'bout the cars but i know for a fact that he has the biggest army equipment collection in the southern hemisphere, he has everything from tanks to jeeps and all sorts of artillery and stuff. I've met him and i'm very surprised that it was him, never thought he would pass as a 'hoon'

would you consider yourself a knob then Whorida admitting that you speed everyday? Or is just everyone who overtakes you happens to be a knob?

Good question, put me in the 20% then!!

I admitted to driving 10k over for a few reasons. One, I hate lying. Two, it's unfair for me to rag on people if I don't own up to my own wrongdoings. Three, to magnify just how fast everyone else is driving. Fourth, and most importantly, if my wife read something I wrote saying I obey the speed limit 100% of the time she would rip the #### out of me!!

The bloke that got nabed is the current NDOC track champion and has won it the last couple of years, and is on all accounts a top guy.
Nothing is an excuse for speeding but who out there when they have been on a club run has not sped????
The guy got caught and copped it on the chin.
I love how some people bag the crap out of fellow car lovers, well when you get caught doing the wrong thing I hope all the people who bagged this guy bag you!!!!

While some people might think telling the Police he was an experienced racing driver might be big noting himself, consider that at one time, if you were able to prove that you were an experienced driver & that the car was safe at the speeds, this was considered an acceptable defence & would lead to a lighter penalty. This was when there was no blanket open road speed limits & the drivers were considered able to pick their own speeds (1970's). The last remnant of this was the Northern Territory, which only in the last few years set an open road limit. I can remember John Singleton getting out of a fine for doing over 200 kmh in his Bentley. His defence was that the car was safe at that speed, he was experienced enough to handle the speed & the conditions allowed it to be safe. Case dimissed, here's your license back. Wonder how long it took for the cops to catch the Pulsar, or did he just pull over as soon as he saw the lights.

...I'd expect nothing less!

Sadly most people (me included) have to drive like dickheads in their 20's it's part of being "young and stupid" - I did it, even got caught once or twice.....it's a pity we have to put other peoples lives at risk - but showing off in your 20's knows no boundaries.

There are indeed some guys in their 20's who don't need to....and then there are those 30+ who still need to.

Even though my car does a high 13 sec 1/4 mile (non Datsun) I don't speed on the streets - I'm sure I'll get done from time to time at 10-20kph over the limit, which isn't perfect but human.

I just don't think it's cool anymore to drive really fast on public roads - I guess one day you just give up and conform, having kids probably speeds up that whole conformance/respect for your and others lives.

This thread gives us all a opportunity to rant....cathartic it is.

Deserted roads where your only hurting yourself.....hmmm...not as uncool. It's the whole risking other peoples lives that I think is selfish and childish.

We all have or will go for a bit of a squirt. It comes down to this; "Expect the unexpected". I spent 7 years doing RAR (road accident rescue) I've seen it all and heard all of the excuses in the world. People trying to justify their behaviour while their wife, kids, friends are bleeding to death with their guts all over the road. EVER HAD TO PICK UP A PERSONS GUTS! I have picked up a child who was shot through the front screen because as mum said "The road was clear, it was safe", "He likes it when I go fast", "He laughs and laughs" NOT ANYMORE!!! I don't have a problem with the laws on hooning. A little common sence goes a long way for Christs sake. We need more facilities to go for a quick drive. I mean community and police organised events. I saw this done in Warwick and it works. The amount of people getting done for those types of offences dropped but you will always have the drop kick that just won't play by the rules and they are the ones that need to have their licences revoked. As guys get older we slow down the production of testosterone, maybe the old guy should think about saving it up for the track.
