From my experience with Su's, they are cold arse carbs.

You need to choke them.
They will only really start to work when the engine reached full operating temperature. Until then my set backfires thru the air cleaner.

How do they run when the engine is at full operating temp?

I agree. When cold they are a bit$h to drive with. I choke mine when starting cold and run it on half choke until it reaches operating temp. Even after it reaches operating temp I must still be very careful when driving as I think the intake is not yet fully warm. After about 10 minutes of drive at operating temp they start to work fine.

I have the manual that you are looking for. Anyone interested PM me your email or post here your email and I will mail it.

I will tell you before I got the choke cable, it was something like 5-7 minutes before the thing would even run well enough to get off the trailer............it would do just as described, intermittently drop a cylinder or two.
