Warning do not attempt to download "Personal Antivirus 2009".
My wife did it and its a nightmare, it pops up false security threats like trojans & worm infections and takes control of your browser (unless you pay them for subscription fees apparently).
No uninstall option, I had to manually remove it with Norton antivirus (which did not detect it!) and then it still had other little annoying programs running.
Finally got rid of it with "Malwarebytes' anti-malware" Free program.

Ironic these days, that anti virus programs often are a lot worse that the actual viruses they try to catch... allmost like some police forces out there...

The same thing happened here except I told my wife not to go to the site. We used AVG free edition and it used the same icon as it. I had to take it to someone to get it fixed as the pop ups were berserk. In the end I got the new version of Norton and it managed to clean it up. Thank christ for Sandown. I got a full version of Norton for free compliments of the HRT Corporate function room.

Its intresting that you have all used Norton to fix the problems. norton is considered by most professionals as malware as it infiltrates into every crevice of your system and cannot be completly uninstalled, thus preventing you from changing providers.

AVG is considered to be execptionaly powerful, relaible, trustworthy, and above all free for the domestic user.

Personally, AVG is the way to go for the domestic user.

Unfortunately AVG could not detect of fix my problem and as I needed to get a decent antivirus program and along came Norton for FREE... Well it fixed the problem and as I am aware that while Norton certainly had it's problems in the past it certainly seems to have it together for now. Better to have some ordinary protection than none. Like having a root with a chick (or in Mik's case a bloke) wearing a franger filled with pin holes!

norton is crap...i got the real version of avg and is perfect, i also use spybot and adaware which are all free to download and get rid of the little cookies that most the virus scanners dont. but hey what can i say im a nerd. i just hate my mates who come to use my internet to "check there emails" aka porn and download viruses to my computer hence they are no longer allowed near my computer
