The fiat TC is rated as one of the best 4 cylinders of all time and its was made almost 40years ago. They all have a forged chro-moly crank rods and some even pistons, they are a die cast block way ahead of any car company (recently nissan finally released one) A fiat body never deserved this beautiful creation but if youre going to go for the 1600 use a regatta 100s high comp engine with its 43.5 inlets and 36 exhausts which will take 49mm inlets along with 40 exhausts.
For those who arent aware unlike champions like the Riggoli family check out link 1.

Feral or any open minded people what do you think of this old non pollution engine?
Apparantely the regata 100s engine has the big valves and high comp from factory and has the oil pump drive from the crank and no auxilary axle drive. Making the overall package a little lighter.
This is the main page

Has anyone in this club done such a conversion??

I must confess that in an earlier life I was a fiat fan and owned both a 124 sedan and a 124S sedan.

In 1978 I ended up buying an Arbath 850 coupe cheap from the Italian embassy. I found out after a few months why it was so cheap for this dream car. It had been parked on the beach at Batemans bay and the tide came in.
Fiats and salt water dont mix.

The car literally crumbled away over 9 months and became an ugly eyesore as paint fell off and rust blossomed. The car had the 1600 tc engine, rear track was 8" wider then the front and very strange to drive. The front suspension was transverse leaf same as 1000 coupe and it was very light and fast.

The 1600 tc's are a great engine, but datto's are my favourites! The only part I kept from the car was the scorpion logo and the steering wheel.

Ive heard if you sit very still on a quiet day you can actually hear Fiats rusting. Anyone know if this is true?

I can vouch for this !
It also applies to an Alfa 2000 GTV i bought from Ray Gulson in Canberra in 1977.

I have to confess...
Of all the cars out there, the Lancia Delta Integrale EVO is my choice.
I know..... rust, electrics that dont work, bad panel fit, more lag than you can believe, but gawd they have some presence....

I've resigned myself to the fact that I'll never have a short wheelbase Audi GpB car....

The best way to have an Italian car is to clean it as best you can, take it home and put it into the garage. Then turn the light off and listen to it rust.

E N G I N E
Guys the links about the Engine!

Yeah I know about the body I hate the bods on them its criminal. But the question is what about this engine????? in my 1000?? instead of a noisy 13b NA. The 1600tc is more than a weapon and the reason I prefer the 1600 is the stroke at 73 or so which helps clearance and the main thing is no pollution gear or injection just old skool simplicity and easy high spinning oomph.
If anyone has the time to learn or read the link you could see why Im interested in this thing.
Feral did you keep the 1600 tc engine? In Japan that car is worth currently over 80,000 aus.
Its a shame you didnt pull out the donk out and push it into completely into a tank of rustkill

If I go to a fiat website theyll be too bias so Im asking if anyone with some knowledge in engine engineering for an open minded analysis or point of view of this thing
the 2ltr or 1800 are too tall and their stroke ratios are like a truck's.

Fiat engines know are a dime a dozen as the bodies rust away just leaving the running gear

Amazing piece of equipment. they pack so much great gear into a compact unit and spoil it by attaching the dizzy out the back like a third thumb.
Would love to see one fitted to a 1200, would it move.
I don't like the idea of the dizzy sitting in the glove comp, might bite me when I get a cd out.

The regata 100s that I saw in the wreckers didnt have the dizzy on the head which is good news considering the 43.5 inlet valves and 36 exhausts from factory.
The earlier 41.5 inlet valved heads with the better finished castings bolt on to these blocks too without much drama as stated.
The 5 speed gearboxes are a dime a dozen but the strongest is apparantely the 131,132 ones RWD.
