...merging onto the freeway from a long swooping on-ramp... almost redline in 4th... shift to 5th and the stick got stuck
I coasted for a little then slowly released the clutch to find that I was still in 4th gear. The stick is stuck between 4th and 5th and i cant get it to move. When I shifted from 4th to 5th, i shifted diagonally, not 4-N-5 zig zag.
Any ideas before i pull the trans??

Sounds ugly!
When this happened to our 'box, we had to remove it, strip it to find that the circlip groove at the back of the main shaft was stuffed ( it is cut into a spline which is not terribly good). This allows the mainshaft gearset to move fore and aft and it jams.
We fixed it by machining the section down then turning up a short push fit sleeve to retain and support the circlip. For absolute safety, we also fitted another circlip at the outer end of the sleeve (cut into the main shaft) to prevent any movement.
So far the fix seems to have worked.
This is the worst case, I think.
It could be also worn selectors, or a broken selector fork.
In any event, the gearbox has probably got to be hooked out and stripped.
Best of luck!

5spd shift rods
I found a broken roll pin (tension pin) on the 5/R shift fork. This caused the 5/R rod to be sloppy enough to allow the shifter striking rod to slip between the gap to 5/R with out first returning the 4/3 rod back to Neutral.

My wife doesn't care about any of this. I just assumed someone in here might be interested.
