yes, littledarkone is right. You should not proceed until you verify those two items. They are the foundation.

also might be flooded, put a battery charger on for a while to get the cranking speed right up, especially on a tight new engine, while the extra unburnt fuel evaporates for a couple of hours.

Is the float level correct? If the float is too high, or the needle & seat stuck open, the fuel will run up & into the inlet manifold. There's a small window on the forward side of the carby with a little dot in the middle, the dot is the correct level of fuel for the carby. Maybe it's not starting because the plugs have fowled up. There's a screw on the rocker cover side of the carby that controls the idle mixture, turn it in (clockwise) to lean out the mixture, turn it out (counterclockwise) to richen the mixture.Check the firing order, too. That back fire sounds like you've got 3 & 4 plug wires crossed, remember its 1-3-4-2, not 1-4-3-2. I fell victim to this with my first 1200,mainly because my brother-in-law was a Beetle nut & he hooked up the plug leads. Also,do you have power to the idle cutoff solenoid. It needs a 12 volt power source to open the solenoid.

Littledarkone is right, i didn`t check the timing. The spark is not "aligned" with the valve opening. I will check the troubleshooting section and hopefully it will start. Ì can wait to film the first start and dedicate to all of you.

THANKS EVERYONE!!!

Ignition seems to be the problem with most non starters in my experience...particularly in the pre-computer age
