From what we can tell so far, it appears that the lugs jumped ship. It landed pretty hard on the rotor, which happen to be brand new so I'm gonna have to replace it.

We picked up the lugs, jacked up the car and put the tire right back on. It seemed pretty solid, so we drove it home.

Our diagnosis at this point is that the vibrations from the loose steering caused by the worn tie-rod ends loosened it up a bit, because the other side was pretty loose too.

This one runs on pump gas. You must be thinking of another. I always wanted to convert to propane or something to the extent though.

LOVED the line "Thats how I wanted the tyre to sit but not under these conditions"

Glad you, passenger, rim and the car are OK.

Let it be a lesson to us all that it pays to check your nuts regulary, (and see that yr wheel is on properly once and a while too).
