A C22 Vanette! I cannot believe I've seen one today.

1988 USDM Nissan Van -- one of the few survivors after Nissan recalled and destroyed all of them.

Of course there are no major parts missing. Nobody here needs parts for a C22.

HAaha nice find, any visible evidence as to why it was wrecked...a burnt-out engine bay maybe? ;)

I was so shocked to find it, I forgot to look at the diff.

The engine is a Z24 automatic. Doesn't look to be anything wrong with it.

Not a bad looking van, why were they recalled and scrapped?

The Nissan C22 was modified for the United States market to compete with the similar sized Toyota Van and Mitsubishi Van, and to join the growing minivan market in the USA. This van was sold as the "Nissan Van" in the USA from 1987 to 1990. Nissan had to engineer its larger 2.4 liter Z24 engine into the C22 in order to handle American requirements such as air conditioning. The C22 was not originally designed for such a large engine, and the resulting tight quarters would later contribute to overheating and engine fire issues.[citation needed]

In 1994, after four safety recalls did not end the engine fire problems, and with a class action lawsuit pending,[citation needed] Nissan took the unprecedented step of recalling every Nissan Van sold in the USA.[2][3][4] Van owners were offered blue book value or more for their van,[5] and most accepted, but a few opted to keep their vans.[citation needed] The class-action settlement offered discounts on the purchase of a new Nissan vehicle.[6] Never before had an entire vehicle range been bought back by its maker. The vehicles which were recalled were crushed en masse

sometimes its kinder to put these things down, and damn they are ugly vans, just like the taragos of the era.

Who knows mic...maybe they will be beautiful in 10 years time, maybe the sight of one will bring back some kind of sentimental appreciation of its non-organic 80s lines.
...Or they will remain like those Magnas with that bonnet that looked like Gonzos' nose, a source of timeless hilarity.

Im interested to know however, when recalls and mass-scrapping such as this occur...do they strip parts such as the diffs or even the engines that can be used elsewhere? Or is it just cheaper to crush them all in one hit?
