Would the grind and re number be done for ease of registration?

If it is in fact an A12 then would it need a Mod Plate?

You can see in the pic of the carby side that it has a block ventilation pipe, so going from the other Thou/A10 experts opinions in earlier poasts, it would seem it is a restamped early A12.

There is a way to get it (font & Numbers) perfect but leave that for another discussion.

Basically the font is wrong, the font size is too big, numbers all over the place.

if it is in fact a restamped A12, but it matches the compliance plate, and your rego papers, then as far as the law is concerned and any insurance company then no you need to do nothing.

Also, Im pretty sure that you can infact install an A12 into a 1000 without getting it engineered. it just needs an engine number change done. at least here in WA it is.

Its odd that someone would restamp the engine, unless they wanted to convince a potential buyer that it was all original and therefore worth more. I dont believe that it really applies to the datsun market significantly (unlike the falcon and monaro nuts). I would be impressed by an all original thou, but would struggle to pay much more compared to a non- original engine model.

Personally, I wouldnt bother. It looks neat and tidy in there, an as long as everything is legit on the papers, just run with it.

The timing cover is also a 1972 A12 type. Datsun 1000 engines used the early type used by the first A12s.

Wow, a Datsun 1000 with matching-numbers A12. That is worth something.
