They're just the easiest to deal with from some of our experiences. I've heard of people using MkI and II escort struts in Dattos

mainly just coz you can get all standard datsun parts to olt them in, and its not like parts are really hard to get for them and ive only played around with datsun stuff in datsuns, so i cant really write about other struts that fit if i dont know that they can fit
lots of toyota struts could be made to fit with very little effort also...but i havent bothered to try them as there are more than enough datsun struts and there no real advantage in going for something else
but feel free to add to this thread, sure its probably getting a bit long now and needs to be streamlined so its easier to read. but any other info is welcome

digging up an old thread, but are the standard 1600 (510) struts the same as the 180b units? Require the same mods to fit into a 1200 sedan? I have the choice of R31 struts, 1600 struts and standard 1200 struts.. Ill be running a coilover kit and adjustable strut tops. Maybe even adustable LCA's. What struts would be best to use?

from what i have heard, they are similar to the earlier 180b struts, like sunny struts so use different hubs and have a smaller stub axle
i'd find actual 180b struts if you were doing that
as to what is best, depends on a couple of things. what size and offset wheels are you planning on running and how big do you want your brakes

Guys I have CA S13 brakes on my 120Y (78 model).
I need to replace the wheel studs. Will the wheelstuds be 120Y ones?

Shifty- Yeah mate they should be, there is no need to change the studs when doin the silvia brake conversion.
Pig- Brake size isnt overly inportant, as long as they are a fair size (eg Magna, R31 or S13) As it will only be used on the street, drags and the odd trip to powercruise. As for wheels i wouldnt mind a set of nice dished 14" jap rims at some stage, id also like to run stockers etc. Just wondering what the best ones i have listed above would be to use? I have most of the parts available to do either conversion

also, what brake lines are used on a 120y->s13 swap?

wardy, id say stay with the stock struts or go for r31
the problem though with going r31 is that it will limit your wheel choice as you wont be able to too much of an offset on the rims without them being outside the guard...so less dish
where as stock struts you can keep the original track width...but if you then do the silvia brake conversion using disc hubs the track will increase anyway. but if you do the conversion and make it work with drum hubs then you should be pretty close to stock track width and be able to use neg offset wheels without them sticking out the guards too much

ah yeh i get what you mean. i might just try and use the 1200 struts with the drum hub. Ill just have to try and fab up my own caliper brackets.. shouldnt be too hard. Just another quick question, if i decide to stick with the standard struts, what insert would be best to use when converting to coilovers? Thanks again mate much appreciated

I do not know if it was asked, but wouldn't it be nice to specify which setups works with which wheel size. Example, what is the biggest brake setup that will fit 13" wheels.
