LJ50 is a full chassis 4x4. very much not a quadracycle

we had 2 sitting out at dads for a while, he always used to go on about how he used to have one and with the stock bar treads it would go anywhere...and if it went to roll you just put your hand out the side and pushed it back upright

didnt think they would be that light though, but i guess the soft top version with canvas roof and doors would probably be a fair bit lighter than the full cab one

quadracycle is also anything under 800cc in my books
plus if we consider just the car without engine and gearbox
the 1000 body would be the lightest as the A series is
heavier than a 3 cyl 2 stroke.

Finally getting some great info on the topic. Always struggled to get a straight answer.

So as a relative newb, what's a B10, B20, KB10, VB10, etc?

OK, here's the breakdown.

The basic code is as follows
Alpha
B= the small Datsun model range, known in Japan as the Sunny. This code essentially refers to this family of bodies.

First numeric character.
1= Passenger car body.
2= Commercial model or Truck [if it's a Sunny] or Ute if it's an Aussie model.

Second numeric character.
0= Original design or profile of the body.
1= [or any number greater than zero] A revision of some sort, for example the later 1200 Ute models had a couple of variations so the standard ute was the B120 while the stretched-out Long Wheelbase version became the B122.
South Africa also got a raised roof but I don't know if there was a model number change for that.

Alpha prefix.
No prefix= Sedan, either two or four door.
V= Van, or more commonly the Wagon model in the B10 series. Later models used a 'W' prefix for the wagon model
K= Kuupe. I think that this is the German spelling for what we know as the 'Coupe'
L= left drive. There was never an LKB10 but other models were manufactured in left drive. [LB10, LB20 & LVB10]
