the wedgewood colour you are refering to is Ko blue a early 70's Datsun colour. i am currently building a 73 sedan with all SSS options and have pianted it Ko blue. i have 2 1200's because i don't want to wreck my SSS and want to do some club stuff, unless some fronts with cash and they can own the blue one.

Do you have both a 120Y SSS (1974) and a B110 SSS (1973)?

Ah, so the state department of registration considered it a '74. I've seen it before. You should find that the build date on the car is from 1972 - 1973, in other words a 1973 MY (Model Year) B110.

Or is it possible that Nissan New Zealand had a few parts left over and finished local assembly on this one during MY 1974?

Yes NZ had heaps of parts left over to make 1200's. Even Monty was first rego'ed in June 74.

But I had been slowly getting all the bits together to make him into a rep SSS. All I need now to complete him is the 1200 delux vents. Still going to keep the A14E and 5speed.

DD,
One thing that you must remember is that they were VERY expensive relative to a standard 1200 thus slow to move- hence a few sitting around in showrooms still in 1974 ( mine included ).
Re the SSS badges- I think Stirling Mac hit the nail on the head with them being all hand built- some were no doubt slightly different. probably abit like the Charger RT's E38/49 in Aust. - they are all slightly different in their cosmetic add ons.
Re their value- well this will no doubt get the pot stirred but there is no way I would consider anything under $25000 NZ and hey I don't care if you could buy an Evo or WRX for less- go find a genuine 1200SSS, completely restore it then start putting the go fast bits into it and see what sort of change you get out of well in excess of that.
FYI as a price comparison there is a BDA Escort for sale here in Chch for $100,000 and RS 2000 Escorts are arond $30,000.

$543 more, according to Motor Magazine. That was a hefty 18% premium over a regular 1200.

AhhhhhhhHHHHH!!! If only Dennis Marwood would step in and tell us the truth to all this info everyone seems to be giving.

About the best info on the SSS would probably be the old B&W review article ( http://datsun1200.com/modules/myalbum/photo.php?lid=2241 and http://datsun1200.com/modules/myalbum/photo.php?lid=2242 ) It was done in 72 when the SSS was in mid 'production'. Only thing is it was done on a race car, so some of the mods it had might not have been from the showroom.

Apparently one of Dennis Marwood's apprentices from the SSS era lives in my local area, I will try and track him down and ask what he knows so we can finally put an end to all this #### everyone keeps coming up with.

I'm currently attempting to make a SSS replica. I have a pair of DHLA's but they need to be re-jetted as they are set up to run on a 1L Escort methanol engine. Would a standard camshaft be able to be ground to the SSS profile?

Has anyone bought one of these?:
