That was the first time I had raced there in a fast car (previously raced there in a Hyundai sonata production car, very slow).

It is quite a nervous place to race in a hi powered short wheel base car. There are so many places that a small error could mean the end of the car, so I definatly drove more conservatively than usual. It is difficult at that event as you get very little track time, so getting any sort of consistancy is quite hard.

I would like to go back and try to get a decent lap in, I wasnt really happy with any complete laps at all, I made a couple of small errors on every lap, so plenty of learning still to go.

Many of the other drivers there did a much better job in the races than I did, I think that the car should have finished further up. Hopefully next time...

I can see why looking at that video why a short wheelbase in rwd with power is
a handful to keep straight. It is scary to watch, I hope you achieve your goals
and stay safe. Would a Violets longer +17cm wheelbase make much difference?
It surprises me last 370Z has got a shorter wheelbase than the previous 350Z.

Jamie,
I would love to hear more about your car. Will you be racing it in the IPRA this year, if so which state are you based in.
I'm in the process of a very slow 1200 coupe IPRA build myself, hopefully it will see the track some time this year in the O2L category.

Cheers

Bryan

car is victoria based.

random info about the car:

Engine is a basically stock SR20DET with a garrett turbo.
stock inlet and exhaust manifold.
Given the restrictor, you dont have to do anything to them really to make them go.

Brakes are those crappy chinese XYZ 6 piston things. They seem to work ok on this car.

hilux diff - didnt think that a 1200 one would deal with the power

220kw atw.

the car has 3 water radiators to try to keep it cool

225 50 15 tyres on 8" rims

Albins dog gearbox (standard sr20 housing)

MoTeC ECU, Dash and power distribution module.

Good luck with your car build Bryan. It is a long slow process generally, but worth it in the end.

Bob, what is yours? a 1200 as well?

D - the longer the wheelbase, certainly the better for stability, but a short wheelbase can be a bit more nimble in the tight stuff. I would prefer a longer wheelbase in this type of car if possible, but they are all too heavy. Power vs weight is everything.

Jamie,
Thanks for the info. There are a few shots of your car at this site too http://joc.id.au/2011/improved/index.html if your intersted.

I am running a CA18 in mine, only because I had it before I started the build, Although I suspect with the restrictors it wont make as much difference with outright power, might get a little more usable rev range. Engine is yet to be tuned with the restrictor. Turbo on mine is already a good match IMO. GT28 based. This combo made 330rwhp on pump fuel without a restrictor. NOt sure if I will run E85 yet, it is not available in Newcastle so getting it is easier. Might have to upgrade my injectors if i do (currently 660cc).
I also run a Hilux rear end. Planning on RX7 s6 calipers up front and already have starion ventilated rears attached to the diff.

Jeff,
I am actually really embarrassed with how slow this build is going, I have put my feelers out to a lot of people to ask about work availability, tuner, cage builder and so on, I was hoping to get a heap done over Christmas but haven't touched it since November 2010.

Cheers

Bryan

I have heard from some people that an 1800 is a better option with the restrictor, so the CA should be just fine.

Let me give you a tip.... Use E85. Dont waste your time with other fuels. There is significant power available from going to E85 on a Turbo car. But you will need 750cc injectors or bigger. I am at 80% duty with 750cc injectors already.
