Has anyone had past experience in the way of locking systems and what not?
Kill switches?
I have been thinking about upgrading my locking to make it a little safer and harder to get into, im yet to know how and to be perfectly honest have no idea how haha.
Any advice on securing my 1200 ute better?

Cheers Eddy

Depends What the budget is really...

Kill switches are ok but depending how good the thief is it will only slow them down, but in most cases will do the trick.

You can start with putting in a remote controlled door popper kit and de-assemble the door handles & locks, that way if they try and open it the handle does nothing.

But if someone really wanted to get in they could just break the glass.

If some re-wiring is an option you could install a cut off switch which basically means you need another key (specially made key) to give power to the fuel system, starter motor...ect once that key is in and turned then you can use the normal key to start the car...

i actually played around with a pedal locking system. i made a bar/plate that is driven by a small hydraulic ram that sits under the dash and when you arm the cars alarm system a bar moves down into position over all 3 pedals covering them and making it almost impossible to drive, once the car is disarmed the arm does not move until you enter a code on a keypad. Got a bit expensive very involved and very fiddly....

hope this info helps

I would fit an alarm but these days they only slow ppl down if they want the car they'll just flat bed it if the really want it!
I'd just pay an auto shops to supplie and fit one that way it's covered by warrenty and they cos bout the same as buying one and fitting yourself with alot less troubble! Lol

Autobarn and places have kits fitted for like 200 bucks up

when you get an alarm dont put a sticker on your window cause that will tell the theif what kinda alarm you have and they will know how to get around it, just get a big #OOPS# off flashing LED on the dash, hide everything of value ie wallets, head units etc. Also have a keyring/alarm button that goes off if your alarm goes off, i have this on my van and it works great, also tells you if its locked or not so if are in doubt you can just look at your keys.

I really dont like datsun door locks so im gonna upgrade mine from a later model car as with the barrel and perhaps remove the passenger lock and fit a popper on the fuel lid.
Kill switches are good but no matter what you do, they will take it, you just gotta slow them down.
General public dont do #OOPS# if they see a car with the alarm on and people trying to break in, Australians sucks like that.

you can do it but will need to keep a mobile phone with a sim car or something similar in the car and have it powered, thief's have ways of finding these also.

They do do gps tracking but not cheap, all my work cars have gps tracking and I can ring work and they can tell where I am how fast I'm going ect I hate it cos no earlie knock off times for me!! But like someone said you gan get an alarm with a paging controle that will tell you if the alarm is going off and which point of entry that have used but they only have a 25mtr or so range, you maybe able to get better for more money, my mate has on fitted that has remote start for those cold mornings lol preheat your car just don't leave it in gear LOL :) but all electrical will play up at some point in it's life and it's a #OOPS# around to find out what it is unless you have fitted it yourself

Yeah cheers guys, i think i will get my ute on the road and then look at upgrading things like this... I will make sure my locking system is in good working order and what not though.
DON_1200 I like your thinking of the pedal locking system sounds very technical but could be a real winner once working!!
I reckon something like the big red LED would be a good idea as well!!
When i finish my ute and come up with the funds i will definitely put a good security system in before i start modifying any of my sound system....
Cheers
