hey all
I just have a few questions i was wondering about. I am desperatly looking around 4 a a14 engine 4 my ute, then i just thought will all a14 datsun engines fit into my 1981 model 1200 ute with out any mods, just slip sstraight in???? just thought i should find out. Secondly im in the market 2 for webers and was wondering if some one could explain what would be the best choice. Will they give me much more power or waste petrol???? one more question, when i get the a14 will i be able 2 fit my extractors that i have on my a12 on to the a14???, all comments are most welcome!!!!

Just a couple of thoughts.

Will ALL a14's fit / no mods etc?...
No, you will need to add, change, or use "some" bits from youe old engoine, like thermostat housing, or water fitting at the back of the head, or perhaps you will need to use the braskets from your A12 block for the engine mounting. Generally speaking, if you can pull the A12 out, you should be able to get the A14 in.

Extractors?
You should be able to use them OK

Webbers, wasting fuel?
If you fit them, & pay to have them CORRECTLY tuned for your engine, you will find that any fuel that is wasted, won't be the carby's fault. If they are NOT correctly tuned, you will wish that they were.

Hi Tommy, adding to your questions YES the A14 will fit into your ute however i do believe you have to alter your engine mounts as the A14/A15 sit slightly further forward i thing(could be back) only by about 2 inches. However ive heard that the utes accuallyhouse the A14 with no mods to the mounts i quess it depends on the year of prodution. Webers are great for worked engines and do tend to use larger amounts of fuel however their worth it. (not really justifiable on a stocky engine though). As for your extractors you wont be able to use them on th A14 as the heads are different. Hope this is of any help to you and if any of the other boys in the club know better please feel free to correct me. Cheers BEAU.

for a pretty stock engine a 32/36 webber I think would be best, but if the engine has a few mods then twni 40mm webbers are good if they are jetting right to suit your car.

Hope that helps a little more

cheers

The 1981 ute A12 and A14 engine use the same mounts (only the before-1973 engines use different mounts).

Reportedly the extractors/headers from any A-series engine will bolt on any other, though they might have a different size pipe. The A14 is taller, so there is a small chance that your exhaust pipe will hit the firewall, but that can easily be fixed. Also, there is some chance the headers may not fit with the A14 inlet manifold which has a different shape.

Yes, you will use far more fuel with dual carbs for two reasons. As demojob says, dual carbs on a stock engine won't be better; they won't give you any more hp than a single 32/36 or G180 carb.

I have exactly the same year model ute as you. I introduced an A14 without any mods at all. The A15 will also slip in without any mods either if you want to go a slightly bigger engine. However the A14 is better to work if you are thinking of doing some improvements to it at a later stage.
I replaced the A12 head onto the A14 block which you can do so easily then the extractors will definately fit and you will also up your compression.
At the end of March I'll have a fully supercharged A14 that I will post some pictures of that you can have a look at.
