I used to think a car could be built for this.. and with great savings and luck it's possible.

car = $3000
wheels = $3000
engine = $2500
clutch/flywheel = $800
radiator and hosing $300
Computer, turbo, intercooler = $4000
Brakes + diff = $4000
Shocks/Springs = $1000
Paintwork = $5000
Panels = $500
Interior +Seats = $1000
Exhaust = $500
Various tuning/certificates $1000
Seals window rubbers = $500
Rechroming, hoses hoseclamps etc = $800
So I get to 26,900 without much trouble.

Do it cheaper?...Chances of it lasting more than a couple of years is very slim.

SURE!!!!
as if it would cost 26 grand for a not bad datto, u dont need to spend the amount u spent to get a real nice one, #### 5 grand for paint ??
not everyone needs a turbod engine and massive never break diff.
BUT if ur making a car and aiming for it to look as nice as prodat's then this is probly correct.

well it comes down to the old saying its not what you know its who you know

things can be cheaper if you know mates that can help or find cheaper prices for parts, paintjobs...etc

yes i agree with Dattodude it can cost that much when u count every nickle and dime. but it doesnt have to cost that much to have a good looking datto

B120dat it doesnt cost as much as Chris said for a good looking datto, thats for sure. But when you start modifying things this is where the big bucks start coming in. You need to remember that for everything you change it will have an effect on something else.

For instance, when I bought the ute for it had a locked 1200 ute diff. I took the ute off the road and put a bigger turbo on ($1600 + fitting), the result was a snapped axel and shattered diff. The new diff was installed ($3000) and the tailshaft snapped in half, ripping the rear of the gearbox as well. The tailshaft was replaced ($600) with a modified Ford V8 item and gearbox with an S13 unit instead of the stumpy.

I have replaced the TRX wheels that came with it for FR17 Simmons (around $3000), replaced the engine, had the car completely re-wired as well as heaps of other stuff.

I bought the car with the paint and conversion done, since I bought it I have replaced the engine, box, tailshaft, diff, brakes (rear), wheels, rewired, re-engineered just to get the car reliable and its now my daily driver. To give you all an idea of cost, the SR20DET ute my mate is building has already cost him well over $20,000 and its nowhere near on the road yet.

Cheers

BTW the price I have on the ute is $14000
