But they're still a good carb, definitely a noticeable throttle response when I was running them, very similar to an SU with the big cylindrical slide. Only thing you need to check is the slides all return properly, the rubber boot under the lid (that seals the top chamber) can also perish, they can be tricky to find but I think ebay US have them nowadays.

Uhhhh yeah but that's a fair bit different, same principles of course but slightly different. That one you have shown is similar to a much, much later model Keihin carb. The carbs he has are very early versions and are quite similar to an SU, bang four SU's on there and that's the sort of performance you can expect.

When was the first R1 released?

The set off FZR1000 carbs are basically free for the asking, there are two sets............one grody and one reasonably clean. The catch I kind of don't want to be bothered shipping them, but likely would if anyone wants to pony up shipping OR if you have and friends family etc going to come to Vegas they could pick them up.,,,,,,frankly I think they'd be cheaper locally

Hardly a thread hijack, but fair enough.

They are Kehin CV.... Whatever the carb bore is. So if they are 34mm then they are Keihin CV34 carbs. Linkages are integrated with the rack, along with the choke. Jets would be okay for a 1-1.2 engine to get it running but you may need bigger ones once you get round to tune. Needles would probably be more needing of a change to look after the mid range and top end. eBay for jets. They would share jets with other older Keihin carbs and possibly with the mikuni equivalents.

Sorry didn't mean to hijack your thread. Should have said I have a set you can have

OK back on topic. The Keihin needles will have part numbers stamped on them. If you're not familiar with jetting go to factorypro.com it has loads of good info.

sorry bro, didnt mean to come across angry or anything, just getting frustrated with these damn things. when someone sells you "R1 Carbs" and they get here only to be these... wtf... think i may have figured out what they're off, went into the local Yamaha dealer today. he couldnt positively ID them but he said they looked like early 1980's yamaha... so i had a look and found these... they're off a 80's XS yamaha 1100...

Hmm sorry to have to say it mate but you have been jibbed, not sure why you were being told these were R1 carbies both by the seller and other members. I'm no motorcycle expert but wasn't the first R1 released in the late 90's?....98, 99? That's a good 14-18 years after those carbs were issued.

Ironically if you are going to involve yourself fairly heavily in the motorcycle carbs on the A-series then those are probably the best carbs to start with because they are so simple to understand.

The first thing to look for if you're wondering if it's off a later model performance bike is the semi-downdraft arrangement of the carb scroll down this page and you'll see a set. Those are sidedraughts, not 45 degree downdraughts.

Those ones you have found are even later versions of the ones you have. Note the bar that holds the carbs together on your set does not span across the front of the carbs pictured in the ebay ad.

The reason the bloke couldn't positively identify them is because they are pretty old and they were featured on a number of bikes.

Just do me one thing and give me the bore measurement of the crabs on the vacuum/cylinder head side.
