Was browsing some japanese sunny blog sites and came across this interesting b310 sunny blog.norinori is blog writer/owner username.

Always good to add to the numerous resources of this forum as ive personally learnt alot from datsun1200.com .already learnt info about L series boxes behind a-series threads and also s15 box cut n shut behind a-series on wiki.

This might be a viable option as r32gtst gearbox are not very expensive.one selling on gumtree for 275aud.On another page of blog, owner suggests he tried an s15 gearbox but found it to be too big?? suggestive if r32box is a better fit i would'nt know.also not sure if suggesting altezza gearbox could also fit..different web translators most often translate different things and wrong info might result.

Hey mission is Motorola, at 86 Altezza mission it's also there. Early 6 for the S15 Silvia was a fast retrofits will often speed 1 minute mission is too large, was abandoned (T_T)

as this blog is in japanese i do acknowledge its possible i might have misunderstood or misinterpreted it

anyway, a couple of pics from owners radical a-series build and abit of info in regards to gearbox...
also very interesting mod list including civic eg6 brake kit.

Try opening link with google chrome web browser as it automatically asks you if you want to translate page into english.otherwise search web tranlator in google.

71-series is big, but fits in a stock 1200 automatic tunnel. The S15 transmissions are not any bigger, but are longer than most 71-series.

Read the Datsun1200.com article on using the S15 6-speed with A12 engine.

It is direct-fifth mission + overdrive!

Very nice welding, seems like he used a plate, then 56A bell welded on and some reinforcement posts.

Would be nice to get a complete pic

DD,
Its also important to note the s15 silvias didn't come with a speed sensor on their gearboxes.their speed sensors are located in their diffs.and in some cases, their casing doesn't have a plug for custom vss if u decide to open up box. This could prove to be a challenge to get right in a datto behind a-series and stock datsun tacho according to statements quoted below.

Quote:
Speed Sensor Calibration:
Although some S15 boxes have a hole for a speed sensor, there exists no gears to drive one. For this reason, installing an S15 differential is easiest, unless you want to tear apart the S15 box to install the plastic gear needed for the task. Not worth it imo.

If using the S15 diff, the signal must be reduced by a factor of 4 using a calibration unit. A basic 'touchup' speedometer calibrator such as the Jaycar unit will NOT achieve this (although I met a guy who ran three in series, which is not recommended). I use this to amplify the 5-speed signal being sent to my S15 cluster, and it works for reductions too:
http://www.gpsspeed....calibrator.html

Please note that a reduced signal must be supplied to the S13 ECU and S13 cluster, so if you install an S15 cluster, you must still modify the signal to the ECU.
Also, the signal of the S15 speed sensor is normally converted to a square wave (rather than a sine wave) by the S15 ABS computer before it's fed to the S15 ECU and cluster. I don't expect this to be an issue, however should you encounter problems, it's something to keep in mind.

alot of forums tend to state the s15 6speed isn't as strong or doesn't handle well as much punishment as the s13 dets gearboxes.don't quote me on that as fact.but not that it will matter behind an a-series.
the rb20det fs5w71c gearbox shares the same internals as s13 sr20det gearbox while being a shorter gearbox.from some sites, they say difference is rb20det 2nd gear is longer geared.

and generally s15 gearboxes are more expensive than say rb20det gearbox.

D,
the welds are really well done as you would expect of japan's workmanship.

those welds on that exhaust and box are awesome ,would the input shaft have to be machined down to fit into the crank or would a different spigot be used instead? any info on the clutch ,was an sr or rb clutch used with a redrilled flywheel?

i always wondered if it was doable to use an rb box seeing as the rb20 boxes arnt sort after and theyre pretty cheap ,there pretty weak behind an rb but would be awesome behind an angry A series

whats 5th gears ratio compared to a 60a 5 speed 5th ratio ?

also would an mx5 6 speed be a viable option to put behind an A series ,seeing as they come out of a small car youd think it would be compact enough for a datto

The MX5 6-speed is the same gearbox as the S15 6-speed (Aisin AZ6).

S15 6-speed may not be as strong as a super gearbox, but behind a 1.2 to 1.5 liter it will be strong enough, don't you think?

haha ok ,didnt know they were the same

well i highly doubt an angry NA A series woulod pop one unless it was already abit shady

so does that mean the bellhousings will interchange between mx5 sr and rb motors ? cos that would be sweet

ide likie to try putting a 6 speed s15 box behind my a15 ,mainly cos then i could ouytrun my mates r34 gtst on the freeway ,or at least try haha
