so i put 3 inch lowering blocks on my sedan yesterday, and long story short, my exhaust rubs over credit cards, and it had basically no suspension travel. so i need rear shocks that are a bit stiffer, shorter, and available in the USA. I searched all the info i found didnt really apply to me. any help is appreciated

Moisabamf,
So are the shocks bottoming out I.e hitting bump rubbers?? Or have you reduced suspension travel to a ridiculous amount, thus the diff is hitting the top bump stop rubber?. It sounds to me like you need stiffer springs to account for the shorter bump travel you have, more so then 'stiffer' shocks. Shocks doesn't control total suspension travel more the rate of travel.

If you diff is bottoming out on bump you could try a large bump rubber as a patch fix to your suspension travel issue. But ultimately it sounds like you need stiffer springs.

It it is a shock bottoming out you could try coupe rear shocks (edit: As pointed out below coupe shocks won't work), I think they are shorter then sedan shocks and given the angle they are mounted might actually be slightly stiffer.

Aftermarket shocks are stiffer than stock so no worries there.

Because Sedan shock mounts above the axle, when you lower, the shock needs to be shorter (unlike Coupe).

So the question is down to shorter shocks.

Stock Specs
Quote:
Sedan
Stroke mm(in) 167 (6.6)
Max. length mm(in) 506 (19.9)

Sedan has plenty of room for suspension, even with a 3" drop -- as long as the tires aren't too big.

So to find a shock the same stroke but shorter minimum length ...

The exhaust rubbing is because you raised the axle 3".

To fix the rubbing issue, you can reposition the exhaust pipe high up, hugging the body sheet metal and maybe reshaping it. It is a much tighter fit with extreme lowering.

Turns out there are no short Sedan shocks listed in the Shocks article. All the compatible shcoks (RX-7, etc) are the same length.

Club, what have you guys used for lowered sedans?

You could get about 1" extra travel but cutting the Bump Stop in half (Bound Bumper A). But then when you hit larger bumps it will have less cushioning effect.

One solution would be to cut off the lower shock mount that goes with the axle. Then fabricate a lower shock mount that stays down just above the leaf spring.

Here's the other place you gotta watch.

Look under your lowered sedan and see how much room between top of differential snout, and the pinion snubber.

If needed, cut an inch off the snubber and reshape into cone (which helps with compression).

See if you do this, the shock raises with the axle housing

On a Coupe/Van/Ute that doesn't happen since shock attaches below the leafs.

Would something like this be practical?

Have I got a deal for you.....................instead of lowering blocks come to Vegas and you can have a proper set of Nissan Motorsports springs. The catch??? You have to take the whole sedan shell they're attached to, I 'll even throw in a set of KYB shocks. This was a race car project (has full cage) I bought because I wanted the H190 axle. Be advised I do not have the title, I got the car from one of the SoCal 1200 members and they are not sure where they put the title, may eventually be found. All of the glass is out of the car but there, also there is a set of doors and trunk lid etc. Be advised there is no front suspension or wheels, it had huge sway bars on it (also free if you take the shell) I robbed the coil-over struts for spares but if you wanted those I'd sell em cheap. It's also light enough that we could stuff it in the back of a full size pickup.
