DD all the truck KA motors are rear sump. All S13 and S14 chassis cars are front sump. D21 and D22 trucks cannot have front sump pans as the steering linkage would interfere. Refer to Datzenmike on Ratsun for further clarification.

Why do you need to modify the oil pan? To add more oil capacity?

Main bearing girdle -- so it's a S13/S14 engine

Front sump too

DD,
Nice of you to post photos of my own motor. You must have snuck a few when you were in my garage.
The motor sits low so the oil pan interferes with the cross member. Also, the tortion bar looks like its going to interfere with the crank pulley. It looks like the KA motor is 1 inch shorter than the Z motor so that kind of changes things as far as a perfect swap.

New motor mounts have to be made. I have the supercharger pulley lined up with the crank pulley but I would like to see what the D22 crank pulley looks likes.

My Holley needs to be rebuilt. I have the kit so I can start on that as well. I have so much to do.

Ah yes, many 510s with KA just remove the antisway torsion bar and run without it. For drag racing it won't make a difference.

Little by little, keep working on it. Blue Lake is in August haha.

The KA24 is based pretty closely to the NAPS-Z motor, but it sure doesn't seem to be based on the things that would make a swap any easier. The motor should be pretty much the exact same length, but since it is a snout mounted oil pump that sure changes some things. If you were pretty happy with the mounts you used on the NAPS-Z you probably can go off of those and build them off car in order to fit them to the motor you have. Here is a link to a thread I used to do my swap mounts. It is a little bit of a read down on the page to get to the info, but it works pretty decent especially if you don't want to start from scratch.

http://720world.com/forum/topics/2016 ... ic%3A2329&page=7#comments

I followed the steps like I said on My 720 4x4 and put in a KA24E in the place of the Z22 that it had. After I got the mounts made up, I assembled the motor and dropped it in. No drama or need to re-make anything. Hope it helps.

Also the S chassis cars use a serpentine style pulley while the trucks use a V-belt setup. Now since the KA24DE in the D22 uses v-belts and uses the distributor drive spindle driven oil pump and not the crank snout driven oil pump, I'm not sure on compatibility. Not sure if it would work. I have several balancers that go to the "truck" and single cam style front cover, so I could compare them to the balancer you have. Might be easier to go with a multi-v belt balancer you already have though.

Thanks for the link.
If you have any info on wiring for the distributor from the Z to the KA, that would be great. I havent looked into that yet. Im removing the fuel injection and going with the Holley 600 4 barrel carb. Its going to be alot easier that way when using the Supercharger and the Nitrous. Im already looking at 75hp wet shot nozzles.

I'll be using the serpentine belts more than likely.
The motor mounts should not be a problem. I'll just modify the ones I have. The engine mount bolt holes are not in the same position on the KA compared to the Z motor. I would have thought that they would have been the same. Also the crank shaft diameter on the Z motor is larger than the KA. Again, I thought that was strange as well.

Thanks Dave, that was good information on the swaybar. That thing is currently in my way.
This motor is going to fit in there. I just need to make it happen. And it will.

Doesn't shorter make it easier to swap in? More room for radiator & fan at least...

L and Z use basically the same block and Z was basically a cylinder head redesign. KA is more different car KA & truck KA blocks use different castings especially noticeable around the starter/tranmission area.

Im thinking Ernie is saying that compared to the Ka24de vs the soch Z head the KA is shorter in height?
A good upgrade for the old Z block is the KA24e head with flat top pistons and boost.
