i have read a number of times articles where utes have had their cabins "lengthened"?
does any one know what this means? or have they done something similar?
It would be nice to hear that getting some much needed leg room is achievable

im sure its possible to extend the cabin, but then can u imagine how stupid it will look? itll be so out of proportion. u then have to deal with trying to make it strong enough, then lengthening ur tailshaft etc etc, theres so many things to think about, when all u have to put up with if ur tall is to be a bit cramped. i think its worth it to have such a cool car as a datsun 1200 ute.

no need to lengthen the driveshaft as he only wants to move the cabin back. yes i have heard people have done it. sometthing like pushed the CAB wall back 20cms, i guess for more leg room. i would never do it, but it can be done.

are you quite a tall person NYS? is that why ur thinking about doin it.

Here's one way of doing it:

but this has been done poorly I think it looks like the roof line is too low. Using 2 door sedan doors would be a better aproach in my opinion and I would love to see it done.

Another aproach I've seen which is more ugly is cutting the bulkhead which holds the rear window out and reversing it. Makes a big bubble out of it instead of being concave and probably gives you about 10cm extra space.

Yet another choice would be to go extended cab. I think this could look the best of the three options if done right. Here's an example which needs to loose the widebody flares:

I'm 6' 2" and i use a 1200 ute as a daily driver.
As Kegs said before 'who needs space when your driving a car as cool as a 1200 Ute'

Roofline too low? Thats the part that gives it some style. The roofline seems to "look" low because the overall length is greater. The roofline should be low, but the bed could be a little shorter.

Gotta get that roof down, otherwise small cars like ours can easily look "top hat" in some versions. Windows like mail slots,....yeah

i think it is ugly, everything looks out of whack and not right. you have a look at a real long bed 1200 ute and you will see how much better it looks

that "Frankenstien" of a 1200 is UGLY

Bed could be a little shorter? That's a standard long bed.

The roofline seems to "look" low? No, the roofline is lower than a standard ute. This is a coupe door with the begining of a coupe roofline. If a sedan door was used the original roof height would be maintained and would thus look more proportional.
