A stumpy probably wouldnt be too happy with that power, an r31 or 32 71c with a ca bell housing would be a better bet. Or the standard silvia box

Sure if you get the same series gearboxes. 71C-series gearbox for SR20 and 71C-series gearbox for CA18. Just swap the front housing.

R30 "stumpy" gearbox is a 71B series. It is not as strong as the 71C series. The beauty is that it fits in a 1200 with shifter in the stock location and stock 1200 auto driveshaft fits.

71C boxes are much longer and shifter is about 4" back from stock 1200 location. And a custom length driveshaft is required.

At that power level I'd consider doing a cut and shut RB25 or Z32 conversion or an auto.

RB25 used a 71C gearbox, same as CA18DE, for example the RB25-powered R32, and the 2.5 GT R34.

Z32 and RB25DET used the Nissan 30A gearbox, which is far stronger.

Approximate torque ratings
* 71B series boxes 240 ft/lb
* 71C series boxes 300 ft/lb

You already know that power level is hard to control you will need serious clutch, flywheel and the rest eg. brakes, suspension and rear end. You would seriously consider a steel bellhousing to suit either a tremec or t56 6 speed which are becoming popular recently with RB rwd only setups due to tremec parts prices and availability not to mention rb boxes getting older these days.
Save your legs and save money on anti-shatter blanket.

This version is popular with the rotary guys making big numbers
there was a group buy a while back with steel bellhousing and
the beauty is you can just unbolt 4 nuts and box slides off.

A blanket is only needed with a cast bellhousing, is it correct? The steel bellhousing is already shatter-proof.

Or do they fit the blanket over the gearbox body, to protect from shattered mainshaft/gears/case?
