Here they use avgas (racing gas) with 14:1 compression and make 155 HP from A14.

E85 and avgas engines are the same as regular engines. Because the fuel is super-high octane you can (but don't have to) build the engine with 13:1 or 14:1 compression. You can build it for regular rpms or high rpms. Whatever you want.

Or you can run E85 on a stock A12 if you jet the carburetor appropriately.

E85 over a avgas , its cheaper per litre ~1.20/lt, its consistently higher octane and its road legal. E85 is the pick of the bunch these days.

Hi all
I have read the posts about E85 and find you are all on the mark with your comments.
I have been running E85 in my coupe for the last year(circuit racing)and have had great results. To set up the fuel system was the hardest part.
1.Alcohol friendly fuel pump, regulator and fuel line was needed.
2.2 plastic seethrough filters one before pump and one after to see any crap that may be in the lines.
3 a day on the dyno to get jeting, timing etc correct.
High comp 12.8:1(could be more) and good ignition system a must.
System is on a 1295cc 2x45 webers GX head.Power is between 6000rpm and 9000rpm.
the only thing I have to do after each meeting is to run 98 through the carbs to stop any crap building up in the bowles.
I have had no problems and the car is so much quicker than 98 octane

No experience on Datsuns, but some info:
A mate has a Brougham, 350 chev, ran 10's on avgas. Due to the avgas problems of only being able to drive it on the street on an organised cruise and having to notify the authorities when he did, he switched to e85.
He changed the fuel cell, all lines, fuel pressure reg, fuel pump and carby. Basically a new fuel system.
He did a dyno run on avgas prior to changing everything, and had it tuned afterwards. Final result was about 10hp more on e85, but most of this was put down to a better state of tune as he hadnt tuned it properly for about 12 months.
Basically as stated all rubber lines etc need to be changed and the system needs to be clean. Floats in the carb need to be compatible. Fuel pumps may need to be changed too.
Not a matter of just putting e85 in, you need to do a bit of work first.
