This is only a basic guide as i just did the installation myself and found there is next to nothing listed in wiki or the internet with helpful tips.

This is a factory 2 piece golf chin spoiler my mate had sitting in his garage for a few years and now its mine. If your building your 1200 and want to modify the front apron you will get a much better cleaner fit, as i have seen around like at Datsun day. One of the biggest problems is the gap you will have between the spoiler and the apron. See step 6.

My method only requires to drill 3 holes and no cutting or painting required. perfect for the 1200 thats already on the road.

I have included a few pics and Please anyone with experience or helpful tips please add them here and we can save this in the Tech Wiki for future use.

STEP 1: Open clean and check chin spoiler is complete and not damaged.

STEP 2: Bolt the two pieces together to make it one piece.

STEP 3: Use two G-clamps and clamp one on each side to the front of the datsun so it holds the spoiler in position for you.

STEP 4: line the spoiler up make sure its centered and at the right height your after. then from underneath mark the holes with a black marker and remove spoiler to start drilling.

STEP 5: once you have drilled the holes your ready to fit spoiler. paint around the holes you drilled to help stop rust starting.

STEP 6: Now this is what i did to fix the gap. Run a piece of waterproof neoprene foam with one sticky side all the way along the spoiler as per pic. i used 12mm x 18mm and fits perfect.

STEP 7: If possible use stainless or Gal nuts and bolts with split washers so it doesn't come loose over time.

STEP 8: The foam will compress between and give you a nice snug fit. You can hardly see the foam and when you tighten up the bolts the panel it will flex a little to make the gap smaller too.

Hope this was helpful

Nice write up. How do the bolts fit into the spoiler? What size are they?

This gives me some hope that I can fit mine up and make it look ok.

I bought one years ago and when I finally took a look at it I thought it didn't look close to lining up with the front apron. I figured it was because my front apron had been reattached and possibly flexed a little in the process.

Think I might go with nutserts into the holes in the apron, but apart from that will follow this guide.

I'm hoping Clarke Rubber might be a good spot to find the neoprene strip. Where did you source yours?

On a side note....BigD where did you get those clear front indicators from? Are they a bolt in fit?

I used pan head style as per pic so i could tighten from the front. M6x30mm. The spoilers already have all the factory holes to mount so no need to re drill the plastic.

Also i have included the pic from under the spoiler showing the bolt head and neoprene foam too.

Hey cadet1200, Clark Rubber should have it mate i got mine from a rubber co supplier in Silverwater in the industrial area.

I did the clear front lamps when i first built my car years ago. they are off a 180SX. what i found was the cut out was the same as 1200 but the mounting holes were different so i welded up the factory holes and re drilled new ones. I also did clear blinkers on the guards too. looks nice with the light blue and chrome (i think so anyway)But ill save the details for a new thread

Good job with the guide, I still haven't gotten around to putting mine on, I'm sure this will come in handy when I do. I like the neoprene idea, I've bought it before from Clarke Rubber too.

As for where to buy a chin spoiler, take your pick from the millions on eBay.

I have a spare mk2 spoiler if anyone's looking .. Pm me

As for fitting , I actually drilled two extra holes where the gaps are and those bolts pull the apron and lip together so there is no gaps anymore

Sanding the top corners of the lip helps with figment aswell and you can see where you have sanded because it ends up sitting flush with the apron.

Hope this helps
